Hi. My computer is running Win xp Pro SP3. It has a read/write LG DVD drive, which I used ocasionally in the past to format DVD discs with a UDF formatting, to make them usable as large floppies.
Recently I can not find the term "Format" when applying right click to the drive. Before doing this I remove the v from the "enable recording" in properties of this drive.
Is there a problem with the drive or what am I doing wrong?
    Thanks, Joseph.

Try installing Nero InCD now freeware and see if it can do the formatting.

Thanks, tgell. I installed this tool, but I am not sure how to use it. Can you help?
By the way, I use Nero 6 in my computer.
    Rgds, Joseph.

If you have Nero 6 you probably could have installed InCD 4 as it comes with it. It has to be installed separately.

Here is a PDF manual of how it is used.

Hi. I really had the InCd installed, but in order to install the new version, Ihad to uninstall the number 4 version, which I did.
The manual tells me that in "Properties menu" I should see a formatting function. I do not. The Windows XP instructions tell me to remove the v mark from "enable recording". Tried that too. Did not help.
When I run the InCd program it shows me 3 options : modify, repair, remove. I tried the first two, but came to a dead end.
When I open the Nero 6 program, go to Data, there is an option "open with InCd control" . It does not respond.
In short, I am probably doing something very stupid or very wrong. As I am not a computer expert - please provide clear step by step instructions.
    Thanks, Joseph.

It seems you are having an install issue with the program. Launching it should not give you options to modify, repair or remove. I am not sure why that is happening. I would try a repair and see if that works. If not do an uninstall and try installing InCD4 if possible.

OK. Thanks. I had the InCd 4 on my computer, but had to uninstall it in process of downloading the newer version. I succeeded to format a DVD RAM disc using the XP capabilities, but failed doing same with a DVD+RW and
    DVD-RW.
Should I try to re-install the Nero 6? I will also try to find another site to download the InCd 6.
    Thanks for all your help.
    Joseph.

When you got the option to do a repair, did you try that.

I have only used InCD a short time at a job I worked at and then it was only using CD's. I have no experience with it as far as DVD's go. I do not think XP natively supports UDF writing to a DVD-RW but I may be wrong.

If you decide to reinstall Nero6, I would uninstall using Add/Remove programs in control panel and then use the nero cleanup tool. Just make sure you backup your serial key.

Thanks, tgell. Will let you know of any progress. By the way, I use Revo Uninstaller to uninstall programs. In my non-professional opinion it does a very good job.
    Thanks again, Joseph.

Hi tgell. Success, at last. I downloaded the InCd 6.... from www.Nero.com , and it seems to work OK. Strangely enough I had to allow it to add itself to the startup menu, but no big deal.
    I formatted successfully a DVD RAM , DVD+R and DVD-R disks.
I can do the formatting either from Neru 6 or from Windows.
Thanks for your guidence and advice.
    Joseph.
