Formatting Hard Drive

    How to properly format a hard drive? Does anyone has idea?

    First of all remember that you need available all the disks for the software you are going to re-install. You don't mention which OS you are using but if it is XP you should have a recovery disk which is best to use to format your drive. This will allow the system to install all the necessary drivers for the installation including the CD ROM setup.

    If you is not XP then the easiest way is as follows:

    1. go do DOS prompt for the drive you wish to format and type FORMAT /s

    this will go through a series of questions like do you want support for large drives (yes if the drive is over 2Gb)

    once it has formatted the drive - and you will loose all your data on it - insert the CD for the OS

    2. Go to the DOS prompt and change to the CD drive, say D

    Type in SETUP and enter

    this sets everything up for you

    sit back and answer the prompts as they appear

    It is not hard
