Formatting help...

Hey guy how are you? Good I hope! I am here because I had some nasty virus that the only way i could truly get rid of, was by formatting my computer. I have a sony vaio and I restored my computer,, but unfortunitly I have an external hard drive that I did not disconnect. I think I ended up erasing my external hard drive when I was formatting because it does not recognize it. Is there a way that I can recover my external hard drive? and is it free? I have 5 years of pictures, music and alot more in there.

I think I defantly did something to it, because when I hit on my computer it does not show up. Only my C drive appears and I connected it in 3 different areas, but it wont appear.

O sorry. I have windows XP and yeah I see an external drive in disk management. I also see a red ex on computer management under Device manager. What do I do now?

 

Try unplugging the external then plugging it back in to see if your machine will recognize it.Have had that work for other devices.

 

Sorry I took so long to reply, but I work long days during the week. I have unplugged it and also plugged it in different usb's on my computer, but nothing.

I think it did get formated because It does not show the size of my removabal(E) drive. What do I do next?

Sorry for taking a few days to write back. I had a real busy week at work. I can connect other devices thru my usb and they appear and work, but I downloaded that program and did the scan. Here is the results...Its in the attachment. I did a full system report.

Bro I dont know how to check the Bios. This use to have windows home. THats how it came from sony since its a sony vaio. But I reformatted it and put windows professional. Before I did that I had a C and a D drive. Now I have all my space in the C drive only. So I have one drive. That's all I know. I also installed several drivers from sony site. So network drives, mouse drives, so on and so forth. It sucks man.

Sorry for taking long, but my internet got cut off. I did all of that with the bios and no its not showing. Also my webcam is not working. So you might be right...maybe I need something from sony to recognize my stuff. I'm a rookie at this computer thing, so sorry for being ignorant.

 

One other thing...my external hard drive is not getting recognized either...
