Formatting usb from fat32 to ntfs

Hey so I am thinking about formatting my 16gb usb stick from fat32 to ntfs. So that I can put files larger than 4gb on it. Yes I know I can split the files but I am too lazy for that So are there any downsides to formatting to ntfs on a usb?

Umm is that article for a hard drive disk or usb? Or is it used for both?

 

Interesting, never thought about that limitation of flash drives. My largest is 4gb which I found too small for some ISO files but since I needed to copy a file that size so infrequently I never bothered to get a larger one.

I'm curious as to how this thread goes...

 

I'm not sure what the "official" way is, but I use the attached driver to make the flash drive appear as a normal harddrive. Then the format as ntfs option appears. After your done formatting it just uninstall the modded driver.

 

formatting a usb drive is simple connect it to a Microsoft computer after 2000 'right click' on the icon in 'my computer' click format go thorough the options not changing anything until you get to the format selection and select 'ntfs' and follow the rest of the format and there you go. But you have to make sure you copy the hidden files within the usb because the format may erase them. i recommend trying this first with a cheap usb before trying on yours.

also yes you can store larger files on an ntfs usb but ntfs will not appear on a mac i do not understand why but it is just the way it is.
