found a bone

Ummm... I was at the beach on Sunday and I found a bone.

I thought it was cool so I brought it to Bio class for my teacher to identify, and we compared it to this plastic skeleton cast that he had. It looks very human except for this part at the top.

It looks pretty eroded there.

He said it wasn't animal bone (as in dogs and cats whatever).
Could be some other sort of primate, but I don't know. Has to be a big one.

EDIT: Oops forgot the big question. What do I do now?

 

Maybe a whale bone? Take it to your nearest zoo or museum and they may identify it for you

 

I think I'll do that. Too bad I'm not home during spring break. I'll have to go some other time.

Has the general characteristics of a radius (forearm bone).
But is shorter that an adult human radius would be.

May be from an animal.

If it was an animal would it be like a monkey or something?

My teacher said that there would be no need for a radius sort of bone in animals like dogs and cats.

 

How is that tested, a scraping?

 

You could do DNA testing but is expensive. A Vet. might be easier.

 

Might want to consider contacting law enforcement as well. If it is human... well you just never know.

 

Wow to determine if it's human, thought it was simpler then that. :confused

Besides, letting the law find out if it's human or not, saves you the expense and you'll still find out.
