    Hello my geek friends,

My sister came and said that advancedsystemcare showed she was infected.

I did the readme and run.

Sas and MB did not find anything,

    I could not do combofix.

    Rootrepeal found the rootkit.
    I also ran Mgtools.

    see attachments.

    Thanks for your help,
    Pete22

Hi there and welcome. I am currently reviewing your logs and will get back to you with a set of instructions in the next post I make to you.

What Rootrepeal is hitting on will be gone once you have completed final instructions and toggled system restore.

Most of what you ran is out of date unfortunately so let's start making progress:

    1. What happened when you tried to run Combofix? Were you using the latest version? (which if you download from where we specify, it's always the most current version.)

    2. Important Notice: A new version of SUPERAntiSpyware is available.
    • Please uninstall your current version (this is necessary).
    • Then download this SUPERAntiSpyware
    • Install this new version. It may tell you that you need to reboot to complete the installation. You must reboot at this time.
    • After the reboot, run SUPERAntiSpyware and immediately click the Check for Updates button to get more updates for the database.
    • Now run a new full scan of your system. And attach this log later.

    3. Please open up the MalwareBytes program > locate the "updates" Tab > let it update > re-scan > fix anything it finds > and attach the log regardless of whether it actually removed threats or not.

    4. If you DID download Combofix's latest version from the download spot we specified then please ensure that it is indeed on your desktop and you could try renaming it to kestrel.bat if you have trouble running it. Or... try in safe mode.

    5. The version of MGTools that you have is also outdated so:

Now go to this MGTools and download the new version of MGtools.exe. Overwrite your previous MGtools.exe file with this one.

    6. Run the NEW C:\MGTools.exe and attach the C:\Mglogs.zip when done as well as the new logs from SAS and MBAM.

1- I could not get the new combo fix to download when I did the last set of logs.

2- I was suprized that sas was not the latest version. I carefully uninstalled it as you requested. It did not ask for a reboot, but I did it anyway. I also asked for the update. However, even though it said it was updated, it was not. I kept at it until it was actaully updated. It took me three times to get it to really update. Not sure why. I then ran it.

3- I had the same problem with MBAM. However, I ran it when I finally got it to update.

4- I was able to download combofix this time. It kept saying that avg was running but I had uninstalled and rebooted so I ran it anyway.

5- I was most surpized that MGtools was not updated, becuase I deleted the old one before downloaded the version I used. I again deleted it and redownloaded it before I ran it this time.

Perhaps this is part of the problem as I have been unable to update the Maxthon browser to the lastest version. I wont try again until we are done.

Let me know if I was not sucessful with the updates again. I promise I really tried to get the lastest versions of them all this time.

    Thanks again for your help.

With regards to avg, I think it would be best to use the avg removal tool after we are done here and then reinstall it if you wish to continue using it. The link for the removal tool is below, but do not reinstall it until we are finished here.

I suggest you run the Official AVG Removal Tool

Make sure you also delete any AVG folders in Program Files and Documents & Settings/Application Data directories.

    Now Run Ccleaner.

Please go to Jotti's malware scan

(If more than one file needs scanned they must be done separately and logs posted for each one)
    • Copy the file path in the below Code box:
      Code:
      c:\windows\ENVOYRTD.DLL
    • At the upload site, click the browse button.
    • Next click Submit file
    • Your file will possibly be entered into a queue which normally takes less than a minute to clear.
    • This will perform a scan across multiple different virus scanning engines.
    • Important: Wait for all of the scanning engines to complete.
    • Once the scan is finished, Copy and then Paste the link in the address bar into your next reply.

Then do the same for the below files and also let me know the results:

    Code:
    c:\windows\ENVOYRTE.EXE
    c:\windows\SYSTEM.BKC
    c:\windows\WINSTRUN.EXE
Could you please get this: WINSTRUN.EXE into a zipped file and attach it for me in your next post? To do this, see the below:

Please go to start > Run and paste in the following:

    log retrievable @ C:\collect.zip

Now we need to use ComboFix
    • Make sure that combofix.exe that you downloaded while doing the READ & RUN ME is on your Desktop but Do not run it!
      • If it is not on your Desktop, the below will not work.
    • Also make sure you have shut down all protection software (antivirus, antispyware...etc) or they may get in the way of allowing ComboFix to run properly.
    • If ComboFix tells you it needs to update to a new version, make sure you allow it to update.
    • Open Notepad and copy/paste the text in the below quote box. Ensure you scroll down to select ALL the lines:
    Code:
    KILLALL::

    File::
    c:\windows\KA.INI
    c:\windows\KASYS_S.DAT
    Registry::
    [-HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\Software\Microsoft\Windows\CurrentVersion\Explorer\Browser Helper Objects\{02478D38-C3F9-4efb-9B51-7695ECA05670}]

    • Save the above as CFscript.txt and make sure you save it to the same location (should be on your Desktop) as ComboFix.exe
    • At this point, you MUST EXIT ALL BROWSERS NOW before continuing!
    • You should have both the ComboFix.exe and CFScript.txt icons on your Desktop.
    • Now use your mouse to drag CFscript.txt on top of ComboFix.exe

      http://img.photobucket.com/albums/v666/sUBs/CFScriptB-4.gif

    • Follow the prompts.
    • When it finishes, a log will be produced named c:\combofix.txt
    • I will ask for this log below

    Note:

Do not mouseclick combofix's window while it is running. That may cause it to stall.

Now run the C:\MGtools\GetLogs.bat file by double clicking on it. Then attach the new C:\MGlogs.zip file that will be created by running this and also let me know the jotti results and attach the collect.zip.

I noticed there are several steps missing in your instructions to use that cool site with all the anti-malware.

After you open the site and browse, you must paste that info you had me copy and then press OPEN
After you do that. then you press submit file.

Let me try the attachments again.

NO, It will not allow me to attach

oh darn what I do now?

can I open some of the files and paste them into a message????

I want you to try again to attach the C:\Mglogs.zip into your next reply. Why are you having issues I wonder. Can you use a different browser perhaps?

    Hello,

Yea! I got the MGlogs to load.

What happened was, I tried to load the files and the forum said they are already loaded, but they were not!

Since it loaded this file I can try to load the rest of them. But let me send you this first. Send me a list of the files you still need.

    Thanks a lot for helping,

    Pete22

If you are not having any other malware problems, it is time to do our final steps:
    1. We recommend you keep SUPERAntiSpyware and Malwarebytes Anti-Malware for scanning/removal of malware. Unless you purchase them, they provide no protection. They do not use any significant amount of resources ( except a little disk space ) until you run a scan.
    2. If we had you use ComboFix, uninstall ComboFix (This uninstall will only work as written if you installed ComboFix on your Desktop like we requested.)
      • Click START then RUN and enter the below into the run box and then click OK. Note the quotes are required
      • "%userprofile%\Desktop\combofix" /uninstall
        • Notes: The space between the combofix" and the /uninstall, it must be there.
        • This will uninstall ComboFix and also reset hidden files and folders settings back to Windows defaults.
    3. Go back to step 6 of the READ ME and renable your Disk Emulation software with Defogger if you had disabled it.
    4. Any other miscellaneous tools we may have had you install or download can be uninstalled and deleted.
    5. If we had you download any registry patches like fixme.reg or fixWLK.reg (or any others), you can delete these files now.
    6. If running Vista, it is time to make sure you have reenabled UAC by double clicking on the C:\MGtools\enableUAC.reg file and allowing it to be added to the registry.
    7. Go to add/remove programs and uninstall HijackThis.
    8. Goto the C:\MGtools folder and find the MGclean.bat file. Double click on this file to run this cleanup program that will remove files and folders
related to MGtools and some other items from our cleaning procedures.
    9. If you are running Win 7, Vista, Windows XP or Windows ME, do the below:
      • Refer to the cleaning procedures pointed to by step 7 of the READ ME
for your Window version and see the instructions to Disable System Restore which will flush your Restore Points.
      • Then reboot and Enable System Restore to create a new clean Restore Point.
    10. After doing the above, you should work thru the below link:
