Recently, I've gotten the message: "New hardware found: IEEE 1394 Host Controller" after a restart even though I have changed nothing on my computer. The first time it happened, it searched for the installation software, found it, and everything was fine...except the fact that it found this "new" hardware when I had done nothing gave me the heebies.

The second time, there were two new things about it:
    1. The "new hardware" message changed to "OCHI Compliant IEEE Host Controller" before the installing new hardware window came up.
    2. It was unable to find the installation software until I followed the wizard, which ultimately led me to restarting my computer again when nothing else in it worked, including uninstalling and reinstalling the hardware.

I am submitting logs because the problem persisted after I ran your antimalware routine, though I should note the following:
    1. MGTools wouldn't run, even though I shut off every single antimalware thing on my computer I could think of. I even searched for Microsoft's Antimalware software because I was sure I had installed that, but it was nowhere to be found. Hmmmm.... I turned off ALL of Norton Security Suite's stuff, though...and I do mean ALL of it, including the web and identity protection stuff when things still didn't work. I turned off Windows Defender, even though I had the MGTools program and folder in the exceptions box. I remember MGTools having difficulty running on this computer last time with this same set of antimalware software installed, but I was able to shut everything down and get it to run. It was Root Repeal that I wasn't, and it ran this time. Took 2-1/2 days...but it ran. Oh, I forgot it stopped with an error...but then it saved a log anyway and said at the bottom it had finished, so I don't know. I guess you'll find out! :)
    2. The difference in the "new hardware found" was a before and after effect of your antimalware routine...but that's probably obvious to you. Thought I'd stick a note in here, though, just in case. Better to give you too much info than not enough, right? :)

Also, on a separate note: I wasn't sure all the other times, but I can make a concrete link, now. Has anyone else told you all that after running Combofix, a person has to go through at LEAST two steps to get Windows Update working again? It doesn't work to go to the site and click on all the friendly little buttons they give you as prompts that say "Install and register the files." Nope. A person has to go through all their different error message files (none of which match the one I get when the "install and register" doesn't work, of course) until he/she finds the right combination of steps to get Windows Update working on his/her computer again. I lucked out this time. It only took two. Most times, though, it takes SEVERAL...many of which would confuse the heck out of a layperson or even potentially wreck their operating system if they do it themselves (using the command screen, editing the registry). Just FYI.

That last paragraph is only for your information and has nothing to do with my issue. I just thought you folks should know and maybe share it with Bleeping Computer if they're the ones who need to deal with the issue.

Thanks! Attaching logs.... Oh, I ran MBAM one time between these submitted logs and the second time the issue occurred because I had no idea the issue was going to occur again. Let me know if you want that more recent MBAM log. It is also clean. Sorry about that. Sorry the SAS log is at the bottom! For some reason, I thought I remembered you guys weren't using that anymore. Huh. Glad I ran it on my own!

This is not a malware issue. I suggest you post in the software forum for advice with this issue. For general info:
    Read THIS.

Since you are not having any malware problems, it is time to do our final steps:

    1. We recommend you keep SUPERAntiSpyware and Malwarebytes Anti-Malware for scanning/removal of malware. Unless you purchase them, they provide no real time protection. They do not use any significant amount of resources ( except a little disk space ) until you run a scan.We recommend them for doing backup scans when you suspect a malware infection.
    2. If we had you use ComboFix, uninstall ComboFix (This uninstall will only work as written if you installed ComboFix on your Desktop like we requested.)
      • Click START then RUN and enter the below into the run box and then click OK. Note the quotes are required
      • "%userprofile%\Desktop\combofix" /uninstall
        • Notes: The space between the combofix" and the /uninstall, it must be there.
        • This will uninstall ComboFix and also reset hidden files and folders settings back to Windows defaults.

    3. Go back to step 6 of the READ ME and renable your Disk Emulation software with Defogger if you had disabled it.
    4. Any other miscellaneous tools we may have had you install or download can be uninstalled and deleted.
    5. If we had you download any registry patches like fixme.reg or fixWLK.reg (or any others), you can delete these files now.
    6. If running Vista, it is time to make sure you have reenabled UAC by double clicking on the C:\MGtools\enableUAC.reg file and allowing it to be added to the registry.
    7. Go to add/remove programs and uninstall HijackThis.
    8. Goto the C:\MGtools folder and find the MGclean.bat file. Double click on this file to run this cleanup program that will remove files and folders related to MGtools and some other items from our cleaning procedures.
    9. If you are running Win 7, Vista, Windows XP or Windows ME, do the below:
      • Refer to the cleaning procedures pointed to by step 7 of the READ ME
for your Window version and see the instructions to Disable System Restore which will flush your Restore Points.
      • Then reboot and Enable System Restore to create a new clean Restore Point.

    10. After doing the above, you should work thru the below link:
