Free Firewall selection question

Of all the firewalls that are suggested in the "free download picks" do any of them give you the availabiltiy to use ones home networking. From what I have experience unless I'm missing something they just firewall my personel computer and don't seem to give use of the option of seeing or using the other computer on my home network.

Zone Alarm will work for home networks and i believe Sygate will also.

 

I downloaded the free Zone Alarm and from what I experienced there was no way to see my home network.

 

Those software firewalls need to be installed on each computer on the network as far as I know.
That shouldn't be a problem though, I was doing it for yonks.
Do you have a router? They are a hardware firewall themselves.

Yes, Zonealarm has a wizard when you network is detected and you have to select local zone or internet. Local zone allows local browsing, filesharing ect. If you clicked internet zone - everything will be blocked as if the network is intruding. Most firewalls have an area to define 'trusted' networks (ie ones you share at home) usually by your IP range.
Open ZA on the left click "firewall" then the tabs at the top "Zone" and add your networked as trusted
