Should I confront someone on your list? Can I make them move?

No. Harassing anyone on the offender registry is a misdemeanor and can be punished by both a fine and jail time. The purpose of this service is to allow you to identify sexual predators that you may come in contact with, not as a tool to hunt them down and run them out.


Bet this one gets broken quite a bit.

Yeah, and I'm always suspicious of the list. Most of the folks are guilty as sin, but how about those who aren't? Databases like these aren't nearly what they are cracked up to be.

For example, I do not consider an 18 year old boy caught with a 16 year old girl a sex offense, but it does happen and it does get added.

 

The thing is, no matter how much they try to map out where people are and what they have done, there will never be a 100% accurate listing. The other thing is circumstances. Technically, if I were to give a 15yr old girl a ride home, in theory, I could be charged with Statutory ****, even if there was no contact or anything improper going on at all. (Note: I don't drive, and unless she is the daughter of a good friend or some such, she wouldn't be in my car anyways...... just as an example)

I keep an eye on who's where via the NYS site, and did find out that a repeat pedophile lived down the street from me. Yeah, I worry about my son, but I am not getting out eh pitchforks and torches either. The key is to be prepared without being predatory yourself. Also, teaching your kids how to handle situations goes a long ways to keeping things from happening.
