Free Video Editing Software????????

I have cyberlinks Power producer 3 which came with a camcorder my parents have. I don't have the case for the software so I can't get any love from Cyberlinks with regards to purchase information etc... but I still need some help with this software.

Everytime I try and use PP3 to convert AVI to DVD and burn it freezes up and comes up with "this program is not responding blah blah blah......." Is this fixable or is PP3 just a dud bit of kit??

I am no expert so any help would be cool, especially if you could make it a bit idiot proof.

If you need actual video editing software (not converting software, not burning software), like for frame by frame editing and compositing, real time manipulation of images, cropping and zooming of keyframes, panning, opacity settings, looping of audio/video tracks, stream separation, and more, then you need ZS4. It's free, and I know of NO other program that even comes close....
