The new version of Drivermax is shown on today's page of Majorgeeks and is described as being FREEWARE.

WHAT A LOAD OF RUBBISH!!!!!! Certainly free to download and certainly free to scan... BUT try and download any of the huge number (?) of alleged updates available (FAR more than any other scanner) and you have to pay a fortune for the PRO version.

Fuinny kind of FREEWARE in my book. Suffice to say..I just BINNED it. Just another "con".

Bit surprised majorgeeks is a party to it though!!!!!!!

Use SLimDrivers. This is common to list problems and offer an update. SlimDrivers will make you smile.

    Major A,

Slimdrivers DID make me smile at first. However, a little bit like Drivermax, If you have a problem then their support line insists you sign up for the paid version before they will fix things.

I downloaded a number of NVidia drivers, some worked Ok, but others came up with an error saying "insert NVidia CD to trace a .dll file". Obvious problem on a bought PC with all manner of pre-installed programme leaving me with NO cd.

Contacted Slimdrivers support mail and they will sort my problem out IF/WHEN I sign up for the paid version. No way Hose!!!!

Noy QUITE the same.. but still akin to a CON TRICK I think.

I never had any trouble with SlimDrivers, it was all one or two clicks and done. I think we differ in our experience and what you think is a con. SlimDrivers will not have you download a "numer of Nvidia drivers" only the ones you need and since your tinkering with numerous driver programs I cant be sure how many and from where you downloaded them from. Sometimes its easier to just do it yourself.

    Hi

Not going to go down the route of driver finder apps etc and the pros and cons! Major A has covered that.

Personally I would be tempted to come at a driver issue manually and locate any drivers you need from the developer direct, and with a bought PC this can be done easily, just need to say start a new Thread in our Drivers forum and tell us what Windows version you have and what Make and Model of PC is an OEM from DELL, HP etc or if a custom build what make and model the motherboard is as we can likely find the drivers you need.

Just start a thread in the Drivers forum.

    major A...

Just to clarify... the drivers I downloaded were three from several that the SlimDrivers scan found. They were done from the links provided by Slimdrivers. They are to do with USB controllers and the like.

The problems only arose because of a need for certain .dll files to enable the drivers to be installed onto my PC. As I do not have an Nvidia installation CD I sought help from Slimdrivers as to what next or how to get rid of the "offending" drivers to avoid having to "cancel" every time I log on.

It was at this stage that Slimdrivers would only help IF I signed up for the paid version.

I do not claim to be an expert BUY am far from a novice. Unfortunately I cannot locate exactly WHERE to update downloads are to delete them..NOR can I find the required .dll files as yet.

    Thanks for the discussion.
Question... is SlimDrivers(SD) the same as DriverUpdate(DU), because when download SD, it comes as DU, unless we are downloading the at the wrong program.
The download site (cnet) shows a SD start window image with a SD title, but when download, it comes with a DU title ?
Thanks again for your help !
Ps: Installed, but havent run it yet. Does it update when run, or is there an update option in the menu somewhere, cant find.

I am not a great fan of any driver finding software, I am of the same standing as DavidGP, Though I have used Slimdrivers quite a few times with no problems, I lie there I had one issue but all that was was a driver thats version was "OLDER" than the one I had already installed,I have also recommended Slimdrivers to other MG's forum members when finding the correct driver is troublesome and,had no bad response back.

Thank you for the reply/s !
After SD finds, assume there is the option of not using to download/install, and can go directly to the program website and check on ?

Think actually did try to find on MG site, but wasnt having much luck. Always makes me feel a little bit better when it comes from a reputable source like MG :wave

I have never tried this but one approach would be to get Driver Collector, which is an MG PICK,
collect and Save your current drivers, and then go about updating those as needed
on a one by one basis.

Good point, is SD not able to collect and save/hold ?

You do not have to install any of the drivers that slimdriver finds, as you can take note of what drivers are listed for updating and see if they are available from your systems manufacturer.
