freedom -by - zero knowledge

on my friends computer, they have this freedom av/firewall program built into the system...i tried to uninstall it in control panel....add/remove, didnt work...after the uinstall and restart, couldn't log on, because the program somehow was attached to ethernet card...had to do a system restore to get his comp and ass back online...anyonw know how to remove this proplery?
did a google search and some things came up, but i tried them...what a pain iDTASS this program is...thanks.........

The following steps are provided for those who wish to remove Zero-Knowledge Freedom.

1. Click Start and then Control Panel.
2. Click Add/Remove Programs.
3. Click the Zero-Knowledge Freedom listing.
4. Click Add/Remove or Change/Remove button.
5. Read and respond to any windows that pop-up. Restart the computers after uninstall has completed.

If this procedure fails, please download the Cleanup Tool to your desktop from here, unzip the file and execute the program. This will completely remove Freedom from your Computer.

 

thanks shadow...but when i uninstall it any idea how to avoid the ethernet not working?...errr what i mean is, when i did, the connection to the internet wasnt working...so...ill try it again, if it doesn't work, ill be at a loss as to what to do...
in the device manager it shows 2 ethernets and 2 miniport ethernets...1 pair without freedom and 1 with...wondering if i should altogether just remove the 2 with freedom attached to it...thoughts on that? thanks again....

 

The one w/ Freedom is a virtual device not a hardware device, after you uninstall freedom make sure that the ethernet w/ freedom is removed from the device manager, then configure the ethernet card. Freedom came installed on my HP orginally, it was one of the first things I removed from the system. Make sure you have an AV/Firewall solution ready to be installed once you remove Freedom.

Freedom hooks into the winsock, you have to rebuild your winsock after uninstalling it sometimes. If you have Sp2, thats easy.

at a cmd prompt, type

netsh

press enter

winsock rebuild

press enter

reboot

Yeah, its a pretty invasive program. I've had to remove it from some HP machines, and its never been fun

 

In the past I never let it configure at first boot, I hit cancel and unistalled it before it had a chance to invade my system.

 

Never knew you could do that. Of course, I've always run into it after the fact, when its broken something on a friend or family member's machine

 

I have a question, if you don't mind. What is this freedom AV/firewall? What comps does it come on? And what is wrong with it? Ok, so that was 3 questions. Thanks
