Freeze during restart...

Alrighty, When I click restart from the start menu the computer goes through the shutdown process and seems to do everything fine... until after the shutdown process. My monitor then goes into powersaving mode and the pc stays on but has no activity and will stay that way indefinately. So then I have to go ahead and turn the system off manually via the power button. This has been going on for quite a while and really has begun to bother me. Each time an install, uninstall, or system change requires a reboot I have to shutdown the pc and manually turn it back on to "restart" the system. I'd appreciate any help anyone might have.

 

im guessing your running windows 98 as this happened to me the odd time too when i used to run 98.

The only thing i can suggest is to run all the virus scans and spyware scans you can get and run CHKDSK from run.

 

There seem to be some programs that do not like to shut down. My solution, to the same problem, was to use CCleaner from this site.

Do you use a dial up modem,if so disconnect from your network before you shut down? What motherboard do you have? Have you installed any knew drivers or programs that may be contributing to the problem? How about a bios upgrade?
