    Hi,
My computer is working fine as far as doing my everyday tasks like using Photoshop, sending email, etc. But it freezes up everytime about 5 minutes into doing a virus scan, burning a CD, trying to defrag drive, etc.

I can manage to run Ad Aware and Search & Destroy without it freezing up, but if I do a longer scan like running Norton, it will freeze up everytime (always about 5 minutes into it) so I can't do a true virus check. I'm tempted to reformat my hard drive, but I would like to see if I can determine the problem first. I've tried to run as many of the software programs in the sticky, but my computer just freezes up in the middle of running some of them.

I'm attaching my HijackThis file. Any ideas on how to proceed from here?
    Thanks!

    Welcome to Majorgeeks!

HijackThis is not a comprehensive malware scanner/detection tool. It is very limited in this matter. That is why we have the READ & RUN ME sticky thread and why HijackThis is the very last thing to run.

Based on your HJT log alone, you have not malware. I also doubt that your problems (at least all of them) are malware. The only way to know if you are clean is to have you run the READ & RUN ME sticky thread and attach all the requested logs. You did not follow the directions in the sticky. The GetRunKey and ShowNew scans run faster than HijackThis and you did not even install and rename HijackThis as requested.

I did start to go thru the sticky, just forgot to rename my Hijack report.
When I try and run some of the software mentioned, my computer freezes up while running them, so it's kind of hard to figure out if there's something installed on my computer that shouldn't be. Do I try and run scans in Safe Mode? Reformat the hard drive? It's very frustrating.

You must run ALL steps in the sticky and you must attach the logs that are requested. I'll repeat what is required below.

Please follow our standard cleaning procedures which are necessary for us to provide you support. Also there are steps included for installing, running, and posting HijackThis logs as attachments. AND HijackThis must be renamed as specified.
    • Run ALL the steps in this Sticky thread READ & RUN ME FIRST Before Asking for Support
    • Make sure you check version numbers and get all updates.
    • Very Important: Make sure you tell us the results from running the tutorial...was anything found? Were you unable to complete any of the scans?...Were you unable to download any of the tools?...Did you do the on-line scans as suggested? etc.
    • After doing ALL of the above you still have a problem make sure you have booted to normal mode and run the steps in the below link to properly use HijackThis and attach a log:
    Downloading, Installing, and Running HijackThis

Make sure you also rename HijackThis.exe as suggested in the procedures. Use analyse.exe for the new name. This is very important due to some new infections going around.

    • When you return to make your next post, make sure you attach the following logs and that you have run these scans in the following order too:
      • CounterSpy - ONLY IF you were not able to run Windows Defender
      • Bitdefender - from step 6
      • Panda Scan - from step 6
      • runkeys.txt - the log from GetRunKey.bat
      • newfiles.txt - the log from ShowNew.bat
      • HijackThis
NOTE: You can only attach 3 files in a single message so it will require that you use two messages to attach all of these logs!
