fresh-weather google hijacker

    Hi all, this is my first post.

    I "was" going to ask for help to get rid of this nasty fresh-weather hijacker but I managed to sort the problem so thought I would post to help others out.

    If you don't know this hijacker redirects your google searches all over the place and is very annoying.

    I tried EVERYTHING to get rid of this and nothing touched it even with the latest of latest updates (spybot, antispyware, defender etc).

    Anyway, I came across a utility called COMBOFIX and it got rid of it (so far).

    Just a question to finish, on my research this virus has been around since 2007 so how come some programs aren't able to get rid of it ?

    Are you sure all of your malware has been removed? You should consider running the READ & RUN ME FIRST. Malware Removal GuideYou will see that ComboFix is part of this procedure.

    There are many infections that programs are not able to get rid of. Vundo has been around since 2004 and no programs completely remove it. Many don't even detect it. Malware evolves in attempts to foil scanners and removal methods. This is one of the main reasons forums like this exist. Many malware infections require manual procedures to remove. Even when you think you are clean because scanners say they found nothing and you might not even have any symptoms, we often still find problems with manual procedures included in the above READ & RUN ME.

    Hi Chaslang

    Thanks for the advice. I've run all the procedures (I think) and so far (famous last words) my Google searches are OK.

    Before, on a search my PC was clicking away like a clicky thing before it settled on any weird page. Clicking back would bring up fresh weather.

    I'll keep an eye on things and report back if I have any problems.
