So another peacful afternoon at Rancho petaluma...

Let me get one thing straight , i do not live in a bad area of California....

I am sitting in my room typing away when I hear a helicopter very low overhead....

I step outside on my front porch and witness what is possibly the scariest sight of my life. No less than 12 cars a SWAT truck and 3 k9 units come rolling into my street (culdesac)

Out comes at least 7 guys in full tactical gear (face masks, automatic weapons, camouflage)
They charge the house next door (that nice 50 yr old couple) screaming "search warrant were coming in get your hands where we can see them"
Several loud bangs and some cracking (assuming it was the front door). Everything seems to be calm for a while. Then I am scared to death when I here the very distinctive sound of a semi auto being fired w/ at least three rounds --pop pop pop--- out comes my neighbor in handcuffs between two officers. They quickly stuff him in a patrol unit and whisk him away.

4 hours later they finally open the street and allow us in/out of the dead end street...I finally plucked up the courage to talk to one of the officers(man they are even more scary close up). Turns out that nice old man was a top gang member and was wanted on a $350,000 warrant for armed robbery (YIKES) ---and by the way, the pops was the guys dog that they shot and killed (total bummer--as it was just doing it's job and protecting its master) apparently it charged the police k9 (considered an officer here)

So as for my earlier rant about the local pd --I apologize you guys are just doing your job

I mean you would never even suspect this guy as being anything other than someones grandfather, but as I watch the second arm full of weapons and ammo come out of the house I begin to question my own judge of character (I have known this guy for 2 years and no signs) so simply put it has been a hell of a week at the old homestead......

Just go to show never judge a book by its cover

Hopefully now that is over with we can go back to being a nice quiet neighborhood

Thanks for letting me vent I feel better now-- but wow did I have some vivid dreams when I finally got to sleep (shudders)

    OMG not AGAIN?

Wondered if they had right address again when I read the start of your post ;) but yes you NEVER know these days who your neighbours are, long gone are the days when you all mixed, these days it seems everyone like to keep to themselfs.

Just glad your safe mate and they didnt end up in a gunfight, stray bullets are not good.

My lord, again? You are definitely right, that you can't always judge people by just their looks, or how old they are. It does make you think, doesn't it? I could be living by an axe murderer or a rapist, you know? All the more reason to just never associate with your neighbors, and just keep to yourself. That's what I do, anyway.

My wife works with a lady who was arrested a couple of nights ago. The WEMET team (narcotics task force, basically a SWAT team) came to her house and told her they had a 4 year old warrant for a false police report and were going to search her house because she had been under surveillence for the last week, for possible drug sales, due to too much traffic in out of her house. They found absolutely nothing, even with a K-9 search. They, then took her in for the false police report. They would not tell her what the report was about. She can't remember ever calling the police or making any reports. She DOES not do drugs or sell them. The only traffic she has had in the last week was her son, her neighbor, and us. This is going to be interesting to see what happens. Our county is notoriously crooked. We send more people to prison then Wayne county (Detroit) does.

Know what you mean, 'SNIPE. I don't live there, but Stoddard County, just south of where I live in Cape Girardeau County here in Southeast Missouri, is notorious for having very crooked law enforcement, and for having one of the most corrupt judicial systems around. Regular bribery, cops playing favorites with certain citizens, and public drug use among public officials are just a very few examples, and it never ends. We hear something almost every day on the local news about it. My family actually knows a little too well about those things happening down there, since my stepfather is from down there, and on quite a few occasions since we've known him, has had to endure their bull****. It's a very long story, believe me, and way too long to type here.

Interesting story. Enough to unsettle anyone.

I'm afraid there isn't any neighbourhood regardless of location that is devoid of some criminal element.

Inside the criminal profiler's office at one of our local police stations, there's a bulletin board tracking suspects and locations. There's also a weekly report done showing levels of activities and the locations (some busted, some under ongoing investigations). Really an eyebrow raiser.

So it doesn't matter where you live. You never know who is living next door/in your neighbourhood.
