Fridge ice dispenser is broken :(

The ice dispenser on my fridge is broken. It's not making ice anymore. The water dispenser works, but a couple of days ago it stopped making ice. Every other feature on the fridge-freezer works great, but I'm not getting ice. :(

There is an switch for the Ice Maker, that can be set to either On or Off, so I moved it to Off, waited a while, then moved it to On. No matter what I do, the indicator light for the ice maker keeps blinking red. I have gone through the troubleshooting part of the manual, but there is no mention anywhere in it of a blinking red indicator light.

    Suggestions, anyone?

I thought I put that in. Whops... :-o

Kenmore brand, and their website is less than helpful. The model number on the sticker in the fridge is 106.5659400.

Any luck with your Ice Maker Mims:confused
You might want to check if your filter is clogged or your water supply line is kinked.

Still no luck. The water runs fine, the water dispenser in the freezer door is very generous with water. The filter is only a week old, I just changed it.

Semi-good news: I was able to locate the service guide to the fridge-freezer, and though it doesn't mention a blinking red light, it does have an 800-support phone number. I plan to call it tomorrow and find out what their warranty and repair options are. I really do miss the ice maker.

Those links have potential silas, thanks! I'll look at them closer later today and see if I can get my ice back. :)

Hi Mimsy, call Sears, and give them the make and model number. Sounds like a problem I have had, a "sensor" went out.. They don't cost much, shipping is more than the sensor. Easy to replace, and you will have ice again. The "sensor" tells the ice maker to fill and dump. When it goes out, no ice.. ;)

Do the "forks" or prongs on the maker still turn or are they stuck? Any grinding sound coming from it?

We had the gears break on ours once. The second time it was that infrared switch that needed to be replaced.

The links silas found point in that general direction as well...I will investigate further this weekend, after I have played around with the new toy. :)

Sadly, no noise at all coming from the ice maker. :(

Theres few things online about the volts of the ice making that makes it works. Also theres people speaking about actually taking apart the ice machine(they say theres letters or numbers to know the part by). Also they said by taking it apart it can maybe find a lodge ice or something.. Even tho you may not see anything.. theres always a small chance maybe something small is in a part that moves.. and is stuck.

Good point, and I'm thinking of defrosting the freezer for that very reason. That will get rid of any ice plugs that might be stopping it from working.

    - I guess they said to the jumper test to force the ice part into a cycle.
    - Try taking it fully apart.
-Also try the the IR sensor checks.
Check to see whether the ice maker has been turned off. Here's how to check. Look for a wire along the right side of the ice maker that looks a bit like a coat hanger. If this wire is in the raised position, the ice maker is turned off. On some units you simply lower the wire to the down position to turn the ice maker on. On others, you lower a small red plastic lever to lower the wire. If the wire is in the proper position check the freezer temperature, it should be between 0-8 degrees Fahranheit. If it is warmer than 10-12 degrees, the ice maker may not produce any ice. Check your door seals and thermostat, repair/replace as necessary.

We have a Kenmore with an Ice maker, and three times now it has stopped making ice. Each time it was because of an ice-clog in the mechanism.

Hope your fix is also just ice-removal!

    :)

Just wondering . . . you got ice?

Unfortunately not. :( I got side-tracked by a death in the (extended) family, followed by catching a nasty cold. I've made it to the point where the next step is either taking the thing apart (not eager to do that), or calling a repair person. I'll investigate more when the cold goes away.

Check in each slot where ice is being made. There could be an ice cube that got stuck.
That has been my problem with my Whirlpool. Mine has a Filter Indicator Reset button that I have to push 5 times to reset it. Might want to unplug it for a hour and plug it back in. Refrigerators are like computers so sometimes you take the bull by the horns and shut it down and kick it back on to see if that works.
I always carry 2 extra plastic ice trays just in case the ice maker goes on the blink.
