Hey a big shout out to all of you that frequent the website and those hard chargers behind the scenes keeping this website up and running for us. Major Geeks was passed on to me by work of mouth from my college roommate back in 2005. I used to build a lot of computers back then for a little extra cash (pocket change) and started learning about networking and networking security around the same time. For years now Major Geeks has been like my ACE Hardware store for about everything I need for my handyman tool box. Almost 7 years ago my son come into my world born with VSD in which he had heart surgery at 3mo old to patch up the holes. So I did what any father that was stretched thin on time, I went and bought and apple MacBook Pro. Gone were the days of needing to spend time maintaining my PC. My jump to the other wagon went down smooth. Gone were the days of hunting down updated drivers, the days of searching for descent malware programs, the days of watching Norton slowly destroy and decay my Windows ME OS until it let out it's last corrupted bit to meet that Grim Reaper the Blue Screen of Death. After 7 years, or possibly even longer, I finally wiped the dust off my hat and mounted back up on my first water cooled computer I built 11 years ago. She's still running windows 7 and under the hood she is so outdated that she's not compatible with windows 11 including dozens of other programs.
I'm not quite sure what I'm going to do with her. Her guts are fully digital in which she isn't going to serve me in anyway when our Digital Entity AI comes around the age of becoming self aware. I'm not much of a conspiracy theorist running of into the wilds of my own imagination, and I'm certainly not advocating that AI is something sinister. However, it would be a betrayal of my Marine Corps training, and all the sand I was cleaning out of my cracks for years if I didn't prepare for the worst. That's why I still have every analog computer I have built since 2001 and even a few of the original twist ties that come with the cables. There isn't a soul on the planet that will convince me that another war isn't just lurking around the corner in the shadows just slightly out of perception to the sense of human nature. Marlon Brando said it best "I watched a snail crawl along the edge of a straight razor. That's my dream. That's my nightmare. Crawling, slithering, along the edge of a straight razor… and surviving…" Some of you might recognize that line from Apocalypse Now.
I'm not telling you that AI is or ever will become a singularity in self awareness, or that a coronal mass ejection from the Sun will fry all of our satellites and knock out our electrical grid and a lot of our communications. What I am saying is the precipice is coming soon. Just like any good Act III in a story worth listening to or any play worth watching, the suspense leading into the climax and eventually the revelation of where the digital frontier is going to take us is compounding exponentially. My word of advice, keep your analog technology hidden in the garage to collect dust for the next 20-30 years, because the one thing I do understand is that the vanilla thin veil that we all sit behind in society, that breaks down really quick when you haven't ever experienced the collapse of civilization. The survival instinct at the core of humanity changes people in the face of warring adversities. Before I conclude, let me ask a question. How well do you believe you know your neighbors?
I find myself getting a little carried away in all this, but if it was entertaining to a few of you then it was worth something. I'm bowing out with a Very Respectful Thank You for all of you that have committed to MajorGeeks.com, It was a blessing to come back and see such a thriving community in a day and age where not even fame lasts 15 minutes any more.

First, welcome back to MGs. We are still hanging in there.

I have to say, I don't often read posts when people put up paragraphs of words on here, but I ended up reading yours.

As you say, I did find it entertaining. I think there were a few movie plots in there. Hopefully, you are just being ultra-prepared and are completely wrong. I"m pretty sure anyone who grew up with The Terminator movies has some level of discomfort with AI. lol I know I do. I'd imagine there are a lot of 'innovations' being created that humans are going to regret down the road even if it's not end of the world type stuff. Hell, even the internet has led to all sorts of crazy in this world. Anyway, if the Apocalypse comes, I doubt I, or my neighbors, will last very long. Based on all the shows and movies out there, I doubt I'd want to.

    Cheers :)
