Welcome aboard, you got lucky with the other drivers, Try the Realtek ALC861 which are available here. These should work.

Of course Vista's not a prototype. :eek Only other thing I can say is to go to PB and see if they have XP drivers for your board/chipset. Otherwise I hope someone else can help you. Good luck man as not many Vista laptops have XP drivers.

BTW, who the heck is 'Steph'???:confused

I had the same problem with a compac Desk top PC and it was difficult to say the least to get it to run xp over vista it came with the manufacture/s had NO xp drivers for it of any kind and i never fixed the onboard audio for it I had to dump an old creative i had laying around for it to be honest if that 4.06 driver does not work not sure any thing will unless some made a driver for that laptop that works in XP

So... you have Windows XP installed, correct? If so, uninstall the sound driver, and reboot the PC. If the New Hardware Wizard opens, cancel it. Download and install TUGzip. It's a free file 'unzipper' like WinZip or WinRAR (but better). You'll be using TUGzip to 'unzip' the sound driver. When installing TUGzip, click 'Next' all the way thru; at the end, there's a little box for 'Launch TUGzip'; go ahead and launch it. Again, click 'Next' all the way thru until you see a column on the left with a bunch of different compression formats; click 'Select All' under that column and click 'Finish'. An Explorer-type window will open, close it. Download the RealTek HD Audio driver from this link if you haven't already. DO NOT do anything to it yet. Download KB888111; it's the Microsoft UAA Audio Update. I have attached it below as a zip file (extract it to a folder using TUGzip or the XP built-in unzipper). Now, right click on the sound driver; click the 2nd upward pointing green arrow; it will extract to folder of the same name as the driver file. DO NOT run it! Extract it only! When that's done, run KB888111. Towards the end of the KB888111 install, the New Hardware Wizard will open. Follow the steps in this thread starting with step 4 to install the driver. When the install is done, restart the PC and you should have sound!
    :-D
    Good luck!

(NOTE- all the info above is for WinXP Service Pack 2 only! If you have SP1 or no SP, install SP2 first; download it from this link. If you have SP3, you need to 'trick' SP3 into thinking it's SP2 before doing anything; follow the steps in this thread to accomplish this)
