Frozen at 'Verifying DMI Pool Data' - help!

Hello all

I have some old floppies that I am throwing out and am checking they are copied before I do. I put the first one in this morning but got called away before I could do anything and turned off the computer with it left in.

When I re-booted I got a 'non system disk' message. Ejected the disk, pressed 'any key to continue' but the PC hung. Re-booted but the computer is still hung at 'Verifying DMI Pool Data' and I can't get it past this.

Have tried entering the BIOS and re-setting the caches, have tried re-setting the boot drive to the CDROM and putting in a boot disc as these were suggested but no luck.

I have AVG on the system which should have picked up any viruses on the disc but I didn't even access it.

Have you tried Disconnecting Floppy power cable, And check all settings in Bios like first boot device. I think its in Integrated peripherials, best check all settings with your manual.

 

Thanks - will try the cable. I tried changing the BIOS but that didn't work.

I've seen bad floppy drives/cables cause erratic PC boot up like freezing, spontaneous reboots, etc. Try clearing the BIOS, set BIOS to default settings, and reboot. Before clearing BIOS, completely disconnect the floppy from the motherboard and from the power supply and remove the cable from the motherboard as well; then clear BIOS, set defaults, reboot, etc... If that doesn't do it you might be looking at an IDE controller problem or possibly a RAM issue....
