    Hello everyone.

For a few weeks now this pc has been sporadically freezing, i.e. mouse won't move cursor, keybord won't function at all, reboot button box won't work. The only way I've found to get the pc to function again is to turn it completely off from the off/on switch in back of the box. At such time, I wait a few minutes, then turn the switch back on. The pc comes back on with an inactive desktop that can only be restored by right-clicking desktop > properties > screen saver and changing this; then changing it back. This action restores the appropriately acting desktop.

Being limited in funds, I have hesitated to take the pc in to a repair man, hoping it will simply fix itself. Yeah! Dream on!

Does anyone in here have any ideas as to what I might do to stop this sporadic freezing?

Oh dear, I just realized this post may be in the wrong forum; if so, please feel free to move it to the correct one. I do apologize.

Moved from the Malware Forum to the Hardware Forum as this is more likely a hardware issue and you already have two active threads in the Malware Forum.

    You need to post specs:
    make and model of computer
version of windows and service packs
    what security programs
look in task manager (ctrl+alt+del) and post how many processes are running and how much cpu is being used
if the cpu usage is high, what is using the most (you can ignore system idle)

Is this the computer that I just read a thread on about "popping" sounds?

If so, you might have hardware problems.

In fact, you should not start a new thread but simply continue in the other thread you started.

Yes, I can see this thread about freezing and the other thread about popping sounds are related. I will continue that thread and stop this one.

    Thank you.
