It's my wife's/family computer, but I don't spend much time on it. My 8 yo son lives on it. There are 3 user accounts, me, little joe, and mommy. Mine and Mommy's accounts are slowish, but basically ok. Yesterday we downloaded EZVID, so my son could make a Minecraft video. It worked ok, until we tried to get back on Google Chrome and it wouldn't open. It's been unusable since. We removed the program, but Chrome is still down. Any help would be greatly appreciated.

I followed the instructions for Malware removal:

    -Enabled viewing of hidden files.
    -No disc emulation software.
    -Ran CCleaner
-Malwarebytes came up with protection log, but no scan log. It quarantined a bunch of PUPs but there was no scan log, only a Protection Log
    -TDSSkiller found nothing.
-I have attached the Rougekiller, HitMan, and MGTools logs.

I tried to uninstall and reinstall Chrome from Little Joe, but it wouldn't let me.

Any suggestions are greatly appreciated. Thanks. Ed

Are you really still using AOL?

Did you follow the instructions given in the READ & RUN ME >> Using Malwarebytes Anti-Malware

Run C:\MGtools\analyse.exe by double clicking on it (Note: if using Vista or Win 7, don't double click, use right click and select Run As Administrator). This is really HijackThis (select Do a system scan only) and select the following lines but DO NOT CLICK FIX until you exit all browser sessions including the one you are reading in right now:

    R0 - HKLM\Software\Microsoft\Internet Explorer\Main,Start Page = http://search.coupons.com/
    O2 - BHO: FCTBPos00Pos - {284171A7-2F20-7504-35E0-E1B6810714B8} - C:\Program Files (x86)\Shop to Win 31\Shop to Win 31.dll
    O2 - BHO: WeCareReminder - {D824F0DE-3D60-4F57-9EB1-66033ECD8ABB} - C:\ProgramData\WeCareReminder\IEHelperv2.5.0.dll
    O2 - BHO: TBSB07898 - {FCBCCB87-9224-4B8D-B117-F56D924BEB18} - C:\Program Files (x86)\Coupons.com CouponBar\tbcore3.dll

    O3 - Toolbar: Coupons.com CouponBar - {8660E5B3-6C41-44DE-8503-98D99BBECD41} - C:\Program Files (x86)\Coupons.com CouponBar\tbcore3.dll
    O4 - HKUS\S-1-5-18\..\Run: [SearchProtect] \SearchProtect\bin\cltmng.exe (User 'SYSTEM')
    O4 - HKUS\.DEFAULT\..\Run: [SearchProtect] \SearchProtect\bin\cltmng.exe (User 'Default user')
    O23 - Service: Coupon Printer Service (CouponPrinterService) - Coupons.com Inc. - C:\Program Files (x86)\Coupons\CouponPrinterService.exe

    After clicking Fix, exit HJT.

Now uninstall the below programs. If you do not find them or they will not uninstall, just keep going.
    Coupon Printer for Windows
    Coupon Savings
    CouponBar
    CouponPrinterPlugin
    Shop To Win
    Viewpoint Media Player

Run Hitman Pro again and enable the 30 day trial license. Then run a new scan and have it cleanup all the Malware, Malware remnants, and Potential Unwanted Programs that it reports.
Then immediately reboot your PC and then continue with the below.

Please download OTM by Old Timer and save it to your Desktop.
    • Run OTM.exe by double clicking on it (Note: if using Vista, Win7 or Win8, don't double click, use right click and select Run As Administrator).
    • Copy the lines from the below codebox to the clipboard by highlighting ALL of them and pressing CTRL + C
(or, after highlighting, right-click and choose Copy): Do not include the word Code: which is just a title line of
      the code box
    Code:

    • Return to OTM, right click in the Paste List of Files/Folders to Move window (under the yellow bar
      ) and choose Paste.
    • Now click the large http://forums.majorgeeks.com/chaslang/images/MoveIt!.png button.
    • If OTM asks to reboot your computer, allow it to do so. The report should appear in Notepad after the reboot.
    • Close OTM.
Now navigate to the C:\_OTM\MovedFiles folder ( assuming your Windows drive is C). This is where your log will be
saved in the form of Date and Time mmddyyyy_hhmmss.log. Just look for the most recent .log file. Attach
this log file to your next message.

Now please download Junkware Removal Tool to your desktop.
    • Shut down your protection software now to avoid potential conflicts.
    • Run the tool by double-clicking it. If you are using Windows Vista, Win7, 8 or 10, right-mouse click it and select Run as Administrator.
    • The tool will open and start scanning your system.
    • Note: That JRT may reset your home page to a google default so you will need to restore your home page setting if this happens.
    • Please be patient as this can take a while to complete depending on your system's specifications.
    • On completion, a log (JRT.txt) is saved to your desktop and will automatically open.
    • Attach JRT.txt to your next message.

Now run a new scan with RogueKiller and attach the new log.

Now run the C:\MGtools\GetLogs.bat file by double clicking on it (Note: if using Vista, Win7 or Win8, don't double click, use right click and select Run As Administrator).

    Then attach the below logs:
    • the C:\_OTM\MovedFiles log
    • the JRT.TXT log
    • the new RogueKiller log
    • C:\MGlogs.zip
Make sure you tell me how things are working now!

First, I can't thank you enough for your help.

"Are you really still using AOL?" Well.....I never did, but unfortunately my wife does and also maintains an account for her elderly mother.

"Did you follow the instructions given in the READ & RUN ME >> Using Malwarebytes Anti-Malware" Thought I did, but apparently I didn't. Is it too late?

I ran C:\MGtools\analyse.exe and deleted the lines you indicated.

Uninstalled the suggested programs. The wife won't be too happy with losing the coupon stuff, oh well, will have to deal with it.

Ran HitMan Pro with the 30 day license, and deleted whatever it found.

Downloaded OTM and moved the items in the code box.

Downloaded JRT and ran the tool.

Ran Roguekiller again, and it still found a bunch of stuff, but I didn't delete anything, (should I have?,)just attached the log.

    Ran C:\MGtools\GetLogs.bat file

I attached the OTM log file, JRT text, Roguekiller log, and MG tools file

Please let me know if I missed anything. Things are definitely running better. My only concern was the stuff that Roguekiller was still finding.

If there anything else I should do, please let me know. Thanks again, Ed

    You're welcome.
You can reinstall this again later after we get everything working properly if desired, but take note if it installs any other junk with it and also whether it causes any impact to performance.

Run RogueKiller and run a scan. After it finishes the scan, select the Registry tab and then select any of the below that exist and then click the Delete button. Make sure you select the Click to Expand text ( if present ) at the bottom of the quote box to see the whole fix.

    Then immediately reboot your PC.

After reboot, run a new scan with RogueKiller and save a log as in original instructions and attach the new log.

    Ok, did it.

I think I noticed that the 5 items found in the Files/Folders category automatically checked themselves. You didn't mention them, so I unchecked them, and didn't delete them, should I have?

Everything else you mentioned I found in the Registry and Web Browser section and deleted them, but looks like a few of them I checked didn't delete.

    Thanks. Ed

    You're welcome.
Some of the below bullet list is also in the link at the end which is always part of our final instructions.
    • Keep Windows updated!!!!
    • Keep other programs you use updated! Examples: Java, Adobe Reader, Adobe Flashplayer, browsers...etc.
    • Keep your antivirus updated! Most update daily and some can update more than once per day.
    • Run a full scan with your antivirus program every month minimum.
    • Keep your antimalware scanner updated. Most update daily and some can update more than once per day especially when significant malware is hitting the world at a particular point in time.
    • Run a full scan with an anti-malware program like Malwarebytes every two weeks minimum.
    • Increase the frequencies of scan if a PC is being used for significant amounts of surfing especially if younger people are using the PC. Have separate user accounts for each person. Restrict permissions of young users.

If you are not having any other malware problems, it is time to do our final steps:
    1. We recommend you keep Malwarebytes Anti-Malware for scanning/removal of malware.
    2. Renable your Disk Emulation software with Defogger if you had disabled it in step 4 of the READ & RUN ME.
    3. Go to add/remove programs and uninstall HijackThis. If you don't see it or it will not uninstall, don't worry about it. Just move on to the next step.
    4. If running Vista, Win 7 or Win 8, it is time to make sure you have reenabled UAC by double clicking on the C:\MGtools\enableUAC.reg file and allowing it to be added to the registry.
    5. Now goto the C:\MGtools folder and find the MGclean.bat file. Double click ( if running Vista, Win7, or Win 8 Right Click and Run As Administrator ) on this file to run this cleanup program that will remove files and folders related to MGtools and some other items from our cleaning procedures.
    6. Any other miscellaneous tools we may have had you install or download can be uninstalled and deleted.
    7. If you are running Win 8, Win 7, Vista, Windows XP or Windows ME, do the below to flush restore points:
      • Refer to the instructions for your WIndows version in this link: Disable And Enable System Restore
      • For Windows 8 and 8.1 system restore see this link: Win 8 System Restore - How to enable/disable
      • What we want you to do is to first disable System Restore to flush restore points some of which could be infected.
      • Then we want you to Enable System Restore to create a new clean Restore Point.
    8. After doing the above, you should work thru the below link:

    OK, done.

I started the 14 day free trial on Malwarebytes, and will probably buy it. Seems like a good program, and it will be nice to be protected in real time.

Will begin working my way through "How to protect myself from malware."

    Thanks again, Ed
