This was just passed on to me. It made sense to pass it on as well, since I too had personally experienced one only a few months ago! :(

    * Editor's note: You might want to memorize the 3 or 4 digit number following the credit card # on the back of the card and scratch it out so no one can copy it. A lot of internet transactions ask you for that number these days.

Snopes classifies it as "possible, but not common", and goes on to say that it's one of those email warnings that's impossible to prove one way or the other.

    This made me giggle:

I agree but 'possible but not common' is realistic, meaning if it was possible and common there would be no need for these types of warnings as it would be well known! That said, I am much more skeptical about my online purchases nowadays! :(

Being skeptical is good...it helps make sure your purchases are secure. However, believing every email warning of fraud to come through your inbox is another thing entirely. I just look at Snopes and draw my own conclusions, and since I go to many sites where people post things that I find on Snopes regularly, I try to provide that information when it comes up.

you know, I would have asked to speak to the manager in scene two and three. In scene three, I would have made sure the police were involved and kept his phone as evidence. But that's just me, I also probably would have been arrested for disturbing the peace or something for the hell I'd raise in those situations.

For any reasonably small purchases, including restaurants, I pay cash. Old fashioned maybe, but it's foolproof. And I never pay with a bank check-card, since that CAN open up your entire checking account to a thief.
