Gaining control of "System Volume Information"

Hey, So go to visit the parents and get stuck with the computer troubles.

They suddenly started losing mass amounts of hard drive space. I did the malware sweeps, and things seem more or less okay there.

I found thisthread and asked my dad, and yes, they'd had trouble with backups only half completing.

I found some in Norton, which I was able to remove, that gave back 7 gigs or so but I can't seem to gain full access to System Volume Information. I went into Properties of the folder and added my dad's user (administrator) but while it lets me give him permissions, it pops up saying that permission could not be granted for each of the half-backup files.

I have gone into Services and Volume Shadow Copy, and turned it off, and tried deleting, and I tried turning it back on and deleting, and turning it off, rebooting and deleting, and turning it back on and rebooting and deleting. I am never granted access to delete these files.

I ran Space Monger and there's about 26 gigs that it can't analyze.

What am I missing? and Thanks in Advance

 

Maybe toggle System Restore... right click My Computer; click Properties; click System Restore; check the little box to disable System Restore; restart the PC. Run a full cleaning using several different cleaners like CCleaner and CleanUp and maybe some others found in this section. Then run a full defrag (I like QuickSys ). When you're all done, go back to System Restore and uncheck the box. Disabling System Restore purges all the restore points and system snapshots.

There's still about 15 gigs I can't scan with SpaceMonger, but the computer is functional again.
