    Welcome to MajorGeeks!

In Linux, you find some games that you cannot play the same as on Windows, but you also find you have a deeper knowledge and control over the system and can allocate system resources in different ways.

I would suggest a Live CD to test the distribution of your choice for a starting point.

My triple-boot systems use the fewest resources while running Linux (Gentoo custom compiled for this machine), slightly better than XP SP3, followed by Win 7, which is miles better than the abysmal Vista.

64-bit is really not worth it. I haven't come across a game yet that needs > 3.5GB memory or has enough true 64 bit code to run noticeably faster.

I've been tweaking systems for gaming manually since the days of win 3.1 and DOS, and "game boosters" are really going to have a very minimal effect on any system (Windows or Linux) unless your system is already really struggling.

I think you'd get a lot more for your time with some manual tweaking or inexpensive upgrades at your systems choke points. That will depend on your system and what games you want to run, but it usually goes in this order: GPU processing speed, cpu speed and # cores for threading AI and physics, RAM available.
