Unless you can find out what port this specific game uses, it won't be possible without turning off ZA.

Port 63392 it think, and i think i can change the port in the game. Its LFS (live For Speed).

Live for Speed OEM server software or something 3rd party?

You behind a router or gateway with a firewall and/or NAT running?

    What's ur server OS?

This from the LFS web site...

"Running a Host behind a Firewall or Internet Connection Sharing:

However, it may be that your computer is located behind a Firewall or Internet Sharing network (when your computer is not directly connected to the internet, but through a Router of some kind). To be able to run a host in this situation, you have to open a 'Port' in your routers Firewall and/or Internet Sharing settings. Unfortuantely every OS and firewall software has it's own way of doing this. We'll try to explain how to open a port using standard Windows firewall and ICS (sharing) software.

Opening a PORT on a router with Windows XP:

If your router uses Windows XP, you will have to add a service device in your firewall settings. You can find these settings in: My Network Places -> View Network Connections -> RIGHT click the network device connected directly to the internet and choose properties. On this next window, there will be 3 tabs (General, Authentication, Advanced). Click Advanced and you should see your firewall and sharing enabled. Click the bottom right SETTINGS button. Here you will be in the next window and tab called 'Services'. Click Add to add a new service. In this Service Settings window, fill out a name for your own recognition, the IP of the computer on your network where you wish to run the host, and twice the port number 63392 in the external and internal fields. (We recommend running the host on your router, but it should work from anywhere on your network provided you fill out the correct IP adress of the computer running the host)

If you fail to do this, you may seem to still be able to run a host, but nobody will see you and thus no one will ever connect to you and people will have to wait longer to get the host list from the master server.

Opening a PORT on a router with Windows 98 SE/Windows ME:

For Windows 98se and Windows ME users we have a file for download: lfsportmap_me_98se.inf

    To use this file:

    1) download the file onto your router computer

    2) right click on the file and select "install"

    3) reboot computer

Then you can run a host on your router pc.

If you fail to do this, you may seem to still be able to run a host, but nobody will see you and thus no one will ever connect to you and people will have to wait longer to get the host list from the master server.

Opening a PORT on a router with Windows 98:

This is quite impossible since Windows 98 does not share internet connections.

    technical support : tech@liveforspeed.net

    or this from ZA support...

ZoneAlarm and ZoneAlarm Pro understand to dynamically open and close ports as needed so no adjustments need to be made with the firewall.

From the Programs panel, when you give an application rights to access the Internet, it is designated as trusted.

If these applications require incoming connections to function correctly then you need to apply server rights.

If you are having difficulty connecting to applications in stealth mode (at "High" security), that's because remote servers aren't able to see your machine. In these instances, try at "Medium" security. If you are having problems getting an online game to run properly, there are some the things you can try.

Many games run in "exclusive" full screen mode. This prevents ZoneAlarm and ZoneAlarm Pro Alerts as well as normal windows error messages from appearing. When you are unable to see a ZoneAlarm Alert while you are playing a full screen game there are general things you can do to attempt to remedy the problem:

    • Set your game to run in a window. This will allow you to see the alert if the game is running in a resolution lower than your desktop. If your mouse is locked to the game try pressing the windows key, and you should be able to use the mouse to click on the alert. Then simply reset the game to run full screen after allowing it Internet access.
    • Change your rendering mode to "Software Rendering." This will allow Windows to overlay the ZoneAlarm Alert on top of your game screen. After allowing Internet access, you can change back to your preferred rendering device.
    • Press Alt-Tab to toggle back into Windows. This leaves the game running, but allows you to respond to the alert. Once you have allowed Internet access you press Alt-Tab again to restore your game. This may cause some applications to crash, especially if you are using Glide or OpenGL; however, the problem should be corrected the next time you run the game. Sometimes you can use Alt-Enter in the place of Alt-Tab.
Some games require that you add the manufacturer's game servers to your trusted Local zone (by name, IP address, IP range or any combination). You should be able to find this information in the game documentation, or from the game manufacturer's website.

You're directly connected to the Internet with the XP box then? No router between ur box and the cable/dsl modem?

You did turn off XP's firewall right?

ZA seems to be the issue so let's go there.

    >ZoneAlarm and ZoneAlarm Pro understand to dynamically open and close ports as >needed so no adjustments need to be made with the firewall.

This means if you give the software program LFS full access to the Internet then ZA knows to let it send and receive through what ever port it wants.

    >From the Programs panel, when you give an application rights to access the Internet, >it is designated as trusted.

So open ur ZA and go tothe "Programs" panel and make sure LFS has full rights to everything.

    >If these applications require incoming connections to function correctly then you need >to apply server rights.

This basically says when u run a game server people are going to want to connect to you so you need to give this application "server rights". I don't like ZA so I have no idea how to do this but it should be in ur friendly neighborhood "Help" file.

    >If you are having difficulty connecting to applications in stealth mode (at "High" >security), that's because remote servers aren't able to see your machine. In these >instances, try at "Medium" security.

ZA has an over all secuity setting somewhere in it's gui that lets you change from High to Medium security which you can move back to high when you're done playing.

This is what I do, I open notepad or some other small non intrusive progie just to make ALT+Tab switching easy. When I play BF1942, my PF threw pop ups at me too, I could see them for an instant before BF took back the screen. This alerted me to ALT+Tab to go say yes, I want this app to access the Internet.

LFS doesn't do this as far as I can tell so don't worry about it.

I looked in ZA pro settings and found nothing about server rights. LFS has full acsess to the internet and i know about ALT + TAB and no alerts or messeges pop up from ZA icon. When i meke a server it works fine i can do what ever but when some one tryes to join the time out.
    And thanks for typing mutch.

Logic dictates you try it without ZA to make sure ZA is the problem. Set up ur server, turn off ZA (only for the test) and have a friend try to join. Just to make sure. Then turn ZA back on.

  12. DOA

    DOA MG's Loki

Not so much ZA experience as knowing what ports the game actually uses. Try to find a list of all the ports the game server uses. Often the game server will use one port for the game, but need other services like UDP to do the first connection.

    Nice replies Boz!

ya lost me i know nothing about netwerking ports and that stuff.

What DOA is saying (and feel free to correct me DOA) your game, when you launch the server, wants to broadcast a signal to let other gamers know there is a game here for them. ZA sees this outbound traffic and asks you if you want this program to connect outside your trusted network (the Internet in other words). You say yes and the server is happy it gets to broadcast your game for you.

However, there are two main types of signals being broadcast, TCP and UDP. What these are and how they differ is another story. Just knowing they’re signals a network uses to communicate is enough for now. So you have to let ZA know you want all types of traffic to be allowed both in and out.

However again, when other people see this server happily broadcasting a game, they try to connect. But wait, ZA is set to refuse incoming connections attempts from the Internet. And possibly, because the game server uses more than one port for connections (not sure on this so check with your game server documentation). But you shouldn’t have to tell ZA this because…

However yet again, ZA tells us that ZA is smart, and if you allow your game server all access (keyword here being ALL), then any connection associated with that game server, no matter what port it uses, no matter if it's incoming or outgoing traffic, will be allowed.

So, having said that, I think you have ZA configured incorrectly since you stated that

    a. the game server works when you shut ZA down

    and

    b. I don't think the good people at ZA are lying.

But no fault on your part, if I had a dime for every PFW I found configured incorrectly, I'd be a very rich man and way too important to be lurking around here, no offense MG.

So you could either take some screen captures of all your ZA settings and post them here, or you can type in what your ZA settings are and what the icons look like, or give me complete remote control of your computer and let me look around.
    (insert malevolent laugh here).

Your screen captures and/or typed explanations will of course make more sense to someone who actually has some experience with ZA but I'm sure with a little prompting and some good spelling on your part, I could probably do it too.
