Hi i was wondering if this system would be sutiable for playing current games, and if it isent could anyone recommend what upgrades i need? I dont mind playing with minimum graphic and sound quality, but i dont want jerky game play or horrible load times.

    It is:

    Windows xp pro sp2
    Celeron D 3.06 ghz
    768 mb ddr ram
    256 mb radeon 9600 pro

it has the potential to use ddr 2 ram. It has a lga 775 socket. And an agp x8 slot.

    Thanks.

it depends on the game, but it doesn't even meet the minimum for some really knew games like Supreme Commander.

I'd recommend upgrading to at least 1gb of ram, and depending on how much money you're willing to spend the money you can pick up a decent video card starting around $140 bucks, there are, of course, better cards that cost more than that.

you can get a 3.0ghz pentium d for about $120, it's impossible to determine if your system is compatible with the core 2 architecture without knowing the specific model of the motherboard.

there's a lot of potential there, it's really a matter of how much you want to spend

i'd definitely go for at least 1gb of ram, if nothing else, and try to get away from that celeron, go for a pentium, or a core 2 if it's supported.

Thanks for the reply, youve helped alot. Ive checked my manual and my motherboard can take a pentium d, im definately going to upgrade to one, i dont think celerons have the power to play games. I think ill just gradually upgrade the system, starting with the cpu.

a good plan, i'd try to get the RAM fairly soon too, 1gb is starting to show up in teh minimum system requirements on current gen game boxes. scary right? last year 1 gig was high end.

That is scary, the maximum my motherboard can take is 2 gigs of ddr 2 ram.
