Gateway laptop modem driver for XP Home

This is a Gateway laptop, model MX3231. The modem has a Gateway part number of 6002961 or 6002963R. The driver at the Gateway web site is for an Agere modem and it doesn't work. I've searched Gateway for the part numbers and could only find a Vista driver for one of the part numbers, and a spec sheet only for the other part number. I've tried two drivers from DriverGuide and they didn't work. Here's a device ID report:

I looked around at the VIA site also and found nothing. So, ANY help is appreciated. If someone has a Gateway MX3231, please hook me up with the modem driver! Windows XP Home SP2.

Thanx, but I tried this exact same driver yesterday with no love, but I'll try it again. Gateway says it's an Agere modem; the util "Unknown Devices" generated the report in my first post; this driver says it's a PCTel HSP MicroModem (and I'm pretty sure it's not). I hate Gateways. This happens alot with Gateway drivers; the web site has the wrong driver consistantly. What a drag.

UPDATE: I tried the driver linked to above (again) and it installed OK, but then I get an error "The device cannot start.". That's what it did the first time. Thanks for trying though

 

In your device manager, is it listing the modem? If it is, try updating driver. ed
