My friend needs drivers for his laptop. He installed Windows XP 32 bit because he did not like vista. He has a Gateway ml6714. We found a wireless driver that works but cant find the other drivers. Thanks

can you post an everest report from your friends computer.

    run this everest report
If not can you get the manual from his computer to see what MoBo he has.

You will either need to post the everest report of tell us what sound card he has that way we can either direct you to the right drivers or post the correct link for you.
Posting the report is probably the best of the 2 options...

he has a SigmaTel High Definition sound card. We installed a windows update and it device manager it says SigmaTel High Definition audio codec but fails to install. It tries to copy files and then it says

A device attached to the system is not functioning

    Any ideas?

I will try to post a everest report later.

Download the driver to your desk top. go to device manager find the audio tab, it may have a yellow mark next to it. Uninstall that driver. restart go back to device manager come down to audio browse for driver locate the one onthe desktop then install it.

    MG Musksnipe's posted fix

You may need to install the MS HD fix before you install the drivers. Follow the link to this post and follow the instructions posted to get this fix to work.. Then try to install the drivers. If this doesn't work then you will have to find a way to post the Everest report so someone here can assist you in getting your audio up and running
