gateway select 1400CS requires reboot after leaving comp

Hello,

I own a gateway select 1400CS comp with an amd athlon 1.4ghz and 256mb on windows XP.

I recently reformated the computer, and now its a speed demon. However, whenever I leave the computer for a bit to long, it goes to a screen saver machine, but pressing the keyboard or moving the mouse doesn't get rid of the screen, so that I constantly have to reboot.

I changed the power settings to never shut off. But that didnt fix the problem. I was considering doing a BIOS flash but I think I might have found a more likely cause.

I suspect that the power supply is broken, so my computer is shutting off because it is not recieving the right amount of power.

I was wondering if anyone else had any potential solutions, or a way to isolate the root cause and fix the problem.

have you check your other power option properties? i had a relative (well kinda), that would have problems with their comp everytime it went into hibernate mode (it was a desktop). we changed that option, and it fixed the problem.
