part hardware, part software, no part malware...what could it be...a problem with Andrew's computer!!

ok so as some of you know ive got my 3.0 p4 running at 3.6 water cooled, my memory at pc4100 2.5-3-3-7, and my video card at 500/1300. when i first OC'd it, i ran tons of stability tests for each component, passing with no errors on each. however, lately ive been experiencing some problems...

    1. vibrating water cooking setup, my guess its the pump. every 2-3 seconds a small burst of bubbles comes down from the reservoir causing my pump to vibrate and annoy the crap outta me which in turns results in a couple fruitless smacks to the computer. i have yet to check the fluid level so ill do it tomorrow

    2. lockups/stuttering. i lowered my OC to 3.35 and relaxed my mem. freq. (pc3800) which KINDA helped but the loss of speed kinda canceled out the less frequent stuttering and lockups. Programs take longer to open, boot/shutdown times have slowed significantly, and my programs, games included, perform significantly worse. ive run some benchmarks before and after to compare and there is definitely something goin on. i defrag 2-3 times a week, scan for malware daily, and run ccleaner once a week. i regularly clean out my startup and check my etmps, basic housekeeping stuff. nothing else has really changed. im almost to the point of just building a new system since its bugging me so much.

    3. program problems. games crashing, installs locking up, errors on running programs, the works. my PC is just taking a crap on me. ive tried everything i can think of! any input would be GREAT

I would set the BIOS back to factory defaults, and see what that does...then if it is stable again...maybe start edging it back up a little at a time, over the course of days, so you can truly monitor the hardware/software stability.

Your oc could be too high. Sounds like you got some air in your loop. See if you can get that out and the noise should go away.

The crashes could be from an underpowered PSU. My old socket A Athlon would crash with a Radeon 9800XT and a TT 430 watt PSU. Put a bigger PSU in and it is still up as a spare rig. If you have a multimeter you can check the voltage. Or use a software program (may not be accurate).

alright, u were right about the air in the loop which i also suspected. i ran it open-reservoir for a bit then topped it up which fixed the problem. i have yet to mess with anything else though

Burp! Everyone should set up a water cooled rig at least once.

So back to that PSU, is it running your pump also? When you get the time, check into that. A low powered PSU can give you hell (trust me, been there, done that.) Keep in mind when you overclock, you put more stress on the PSU. I think you need a bigger PSU, especially if your pump is running off of the PSU.

Just my thoughts. Glad I could help with the noise anyway. Good luck.
