    Hi guys,

I have recently had a virus which was re directing all of my browsers to the net. I have re installed windows by formatting c drive and thought all was ok. Since doing this I am still experiencing problems leading me to believe I still have a nasty somewhere.

    Symptoms are,
Loss of internet connection (probably just my ISP)
My free memory in C is around 45gb but I got a message saying memory critically low. It was down to 0 bytes available. I restarted computer and it went back to 45gb free. During that time of low memory comp was running slow. Once back to full memory I noticed my AVG had components not working properly. These are same symptoms I had before I re installed windows.

Avg has found no threats, and I dont think any of the software I have downloaded did either.

    Can you help me please?
Attached are the logs from all recommended programs.

    Thanks

    Jamie :wave

Your logs are clean. This is not a malware issue. I suggest you post in the software forum for further assistance.

If you are not having any other malware problems, it is time to do our final steps:

    1. We recommend you keep SUPERAntiSpyware and Malwarebytes Anti-Malware for scanning/removal of malware. Unless you purchase them, they provide no real time protection. They do not use any significant amount of resources ( except a little disk space ) until you run a scan.We recommend them for doing backup scans when you suspect a malware infection.
    2. If we had you use ComboFix, uninstall ComboFix (This uninstall will only work as written if you installed ComboFix on your Desktop like we requested.)
      • Click START then RUN and enter the below into the run box and then click OK. Note the quotes are required
      • "%userprofile%\Desktop\combofix" /uninstall
        • Notes: The space between the combofix" and the /uninstall, it must be there.
        • This will uninstall ComboFix and also reset hidden files and folders settings back to Windows defaults.

    3. Go back to step 6 of the READ ME and renable your Disk Emulation software with Defogger if you had disabled it.
    4. Any other miscellaneous tools we may have had you install or download can be uninstalled and deleted.
    5. If we had you download any registry patches like fixme.reg or fixWLK.reg (or any others), you can delete these files now.
    6. If running Vista, it is time to make sure you have reenabled UAC by double clicking on the C:\MGtools\enableUAC.reg file and allowing it to be added to the registry.
    7. Go to add/remove programs and uninstall HijackThis.
    8. Goto the C:\MGtools folder and find the MGclean.bat file. Double click on this file to run this cleanup program that will remove files and folders related to MGtools and some other items from our cleaning procedures.
    9. If you are running Win 7, Vista, Windows XP or Windows ME, do the below:
      • Refer to the cleaning procedures pointed to by step 7 of the READ ME
for your Window version and see the instructions to Disable System Restore which will flush your Restore Points.
      • Then reboot and Enable System Restore to create a new clean Restore Point.

    10. After doing the above, you should work thru the below link:

do you have any idea what is causing my symptoms then Tim? Since I run the scans I now have a user setting setup which was not there before.

What user? Since you did a complete reformat and clean install, all the malware was removed. Again, I think you need to post in the software forum. You stated that you only had 45gb of memory free, but your system log file indicated you have:
    Code:
    Total Physical Memory 2,048.00 MB
    Available Physical Memory 1.31 GB
    which is plenty.

The user I mean is when you can create different user logins for your pc. Example one for me called jamie and 1 for the wife. I never had any so boot up was straight to windows. Now I have a jamie and leanne user which it goes to when inactive for a period of time.

The memory I was on about was my hard drive space. On C partition it has around 45gb free but this was saying zero free last night.

    Code:
    Size 48.83 GB (52,427,898,880 bytes)
Free Space 44.67 GB (47,961,907,200 bytes)
You have plenty of free space, but if it is saying you have next to none, that is a good reason to post in the software forum.

    As to users:
    Code:
    Users on this computer:
    Is Admin? | Username
    ------------------
       Yes | Administrator
              | ASPNET
              | Guest (Disabled)
              | HelpAssistant (Disabled)
       Yes | jamie and leanne
Are you saying that you now have two accounts: One for jamie and a seperate one for leanne?

I am afraid I can't explain that. Are you sure the other user didn't create or rename that account? Again, you really should post in the software forum.
