Hi guys, I'm new here. Having been behind a router-based firewall for about 3 years, I never really had a chance, or should i say misfortune, to visit a forum that dealt exclusively with malware removal.

Anyways, before I went ahead and do everything outlined in the READ&RUN ME sticky, I just wanted to ask if the problem I am having is due to the presence of a certain malware, or just my internet connection on period.

Can a malware actually target and interfere with certain type of internet connection, say FTP or irc networking, and NOT http (IE or firefox) applications?

And would the transfer/connect speed problems persist even after the corresponding malware programs have been removed?

I need to know that I will be running all those steps in the sticky with some knowledge that doing so might have a shot at rectifying the situation.

    Thanks.

    Welcome to Majorgeeks!

    Now to adress your questions:
Yes malware can affect just about anything. The only way to know if it is malware is to run the procedure.

Potentially yes! If the malware has corrupted any configurations/drivers on your system then just removing the malware will have no affect on things that it may have broken. Again the only way to know is to run the procedure and see if there is malware to remove.

We cannot guarantee that running the sticky thread procedure will fix whatever your problems really are. But we also cannot tell you if your problems are truly related to malware unless you run the procedures.

Thanks for the quick reply! Before I proceed, I wanted to ask one more thing: by reinstalling windows, will I be able to solve this problem?

If the problem is related to malware or corrupted/missing system files and you do not reinstall from any media that is infected, then yes a reinstall should fix the problem. Just remember that you have to backup all of your own files/data and you have to reinstall all applications again, and get any required updates for both Windows and all other programs you use, and you will need tweak settings to how you have them set,......etc....etc.
