I have McAfee Internet Security 2009 installed on my computer and about 1 weeks ago while running McAfee updates I got a pop up stating that it detected Generic!Artemis on my computer and it is not able to remove this. Can anybody help me on getting rid of this thing?
    Thanks Claudio

McAfee has had false detection issues with this particular infection. It has even been known to falsely find this infection in other malware removal tools ( like finding it in Malwarebytes Ant-Malware which is incorrect ) Before I make you run a long cleaning procedure, I have two questions:

    1. Exactly where is it being detected? Give me the full path and file name(s).
    2. Do you have the current detections database loaded?

Okay. This means you may have other malware too so we will run a full cleaning procedure given below.

It just means is your McAfee program updated to their current list of detections. Simply put are you running not only the current version of McAfee but do you have their current Virus Definition files (that is what McAfee calls them).

Please follow the instructions in the below link and attach the requested logs when you finish these instructions.

READ & RUN ME FIRST. Malware Removal Guide
    • If something does not run, write down the info to explain to us later but keep on going.
    • Do not assume that because one step does not work that they all will not.
    Notes:

    1. If you run into problems trying to run the READ & RUN ME or any of the scans in normal boot mode. You can run steps in safe boot mode but make sure you tell us what you did later when you post logs. See the below if you do not know how to boot in safe mode:
    2. If you have problems downloading on the problem PC, download the tools on another PC and burn to a CD. Then copy them to the problem PC. You will have to skip getting updates if (and only if) your internet connection does not work. Yes you could use a flash drive too but flash drives are writeable and infections can spread to them.
