Hi. I've been hit with SecurityTool a few days back. So, I tried searching on google to find a solution and found one on bleepingcomputer.com suggesting running MBAM. I followed the instruction and the malware seemed to be removed from the system.

However, after rebooting I got the error message right after the system restarted saying that "Generic Host Process for Win32 Services has encountered a problem and needs to close" and the sound control icon disappeared. I checked the control panel and it said I don't have any audio playback device!! Also, when I opened IE, it froze after a few clicks and a McAfee VirusScab On-Access window showing some "Buffer Overflow" error (BO:heap). So, I did a search again but couldn't find any definite answer. So, I tried updating IE from IE7 to IE8. Now the Buffer Overflow message is gone but the sound still doesn't come back.

I've been helped regarding the malware removal here. The system seems to be clean now; however, the generic host process error still shows up and the audio is still gone. TimW suggested I post for help here. Here's the details of the error message.

Generic Host Process for Win32 Services has encountered a problem and needs to close. We are sorry for the inconvenience.

BTW, my system is Windows XP Home Edition Version 2002 Service Pack 3. Any help would be really appreciated. Thanks.

    Greetings, Rxqueen...

    Strange problem...

Could it be possible that the symptoms (no sound and Services error) aren't related? Maybe reloading audio drivers will show something...also, you might try running a registry repair...

    Keep us posted...
