Generic Host Process for Win32 Services problem

I've been having trouble with my CPU the past couple of days.

Sometimes on boot-up and occasionally when I'm connected (dial-up) to the Internet I get this error message.

Generic Host Process for Win32 Services has encountered a problem and will shut down.

I'm pretty sure that when this happens applications can no longer access the Internet, although I'm still connected (noise on the line). The connection icon in the tray is still there (two little PC screens) but it goes inactive.

When I try to disconnect, it won't disconnect. So I disconnect the line itself and get a dial tone. The connection icon remains and I can't diconnect nor connect.

An analysis of the com port indicates that the modem is still in use and the only way I can connect again is to re-start my CPU and and go through the normal reconnect process.

Don't really know if the loss of the DEP (Data Execution Prevention) function is the problem, part of the problem or a result of the problem.

In any case, I don't know what to do to 'fix' the problem.

I've run a complete AVG scan and detected no viruses, trojan horses, etc.

Anyone have any suggestions?

There might be an issue with your Winsock (funny name isn't it?)
Try WinSockFix http://www.softpedia.com/get/Tweak/Network-Tweak/WinSockFix.shtml If that doesn't resolve your problem then let us know.
