I am constantly getting popups whenever I use explorer and firefox. I consistently get a popup from targetsaver something like that. I ran CCleaner, Spybot Search and Destroy, Ad-Aware and Norton and I am still having problems. I was able to quarantine and remove the trojan virus when I ran Norton in safemode. But I guess I still have it because I am still getting the same popup "targetsaver" over and over again. I followed the posted directions about hijackthis. I am able to use explorer and firefox but the popup will not go away. I am assuming that it's a virus. I have the attachment log. Please help me out.

    Hi and Welcome to Majorgeeks!

While Hijackthis is a fine scanner is will not find and highlight all malware on a PC, its liminted so browser hijacks and some malware but not all, which is why its a good idea to completly follwo the below guide and run the steps as laid out and attach all the logs requested including a new Hijackthis log....

Please follow our standard cleaning procedures which are necessary for us to provide you support. Also there are steps included for installing, running, and posting HijackThis logs as attachments.
    • Run ALL the steps in this Sticky thread READ & RUN ME FIRST Before Asking for Support
    • Make sure you check version numbers and get all updates.
    • Very Important: Make sure you tell us the results from running the tutorial...was anything found? Were you unable to complete any of the scans?...Were you unable to download any of the tools?...Did you do the on-line scans as suggested? etc.
    • After doing ALL of the above you still have a problem make sure you have booted to normal mode and run the steps in the below link to properly use HijackThis and attach a log:
    Downloading, Installing, and Running HijackThis

Make sure you also rename HijackThis.exe as suggested in the procedures. Use analyse.exe for the new name. This is very important due to some new infections going around.

    • When you return to make your next post, make sure you attach the following logs and that you have run these scans in the following order too:
      • CounterSpy - ONLY IF you were not able to run Windows Defender
      • Bitdefender - from step 6
      • Panda Scan - from step 6
      • runkeys.txt - the log from GetRunKey.bat
      • newfiles.txt - the log from ShowNew.bat
      • HijackThis
NOTE: You can only attach 3 files in a single message so it will require that you use two messages to attach all of these logs!

Thanks Halo, I think my problem is solved. I ran everything that you listed to run in safemode. Counterspy was the only one that detected the virus. so I immediately removed it, and it's been working fine ever since. Counterspy is the best program!!!

    Thanks!!!

    No Probs :)

Also over coffee and a few biscuits have a read of this guide of ours How to Protect yourself from malware! it may give you some other options for protecting yourself that your not employing at this moment, but do bare in mind as I have an idea you'll know this anyway... but remember to only have 1 Antivirus scanner and 1 live scanning Malware/Spyware scanner + 1 Firewall installed at once.

    and Happy Surfing :)
