Maybe the OP meant James 'Whitey' Bulger who was caught yesterday in which case the title should read 'Got Whitey'.

oh, and for the record, i "edited" my post to make a joke about get/got specifically, but this inane 10 mins lockout beat me to the quick. isn't there any way the mods could set it to 30 mins or something?! i mean, i'm not asking for 16 years here....

 

You're welcome. Maybe the biggest story in Boston but not anywhere else. Sure he's accused of killing 19 people, probably killed way more than that but they were crooks too and who cares about that, hopefully no innocents were done in.

I've seen his story within the last few weeks on Discovery or NatGeo, that's why I thought this may be the same dude. He's 81, they going to keep him alive now with better medical care than the average poor person gets, not that he's on death's door yet but he's up there. I hope he croaks soon, save some taxpayer money.

 

well, the title was a choice of "Get Whitey!" or "Hey Whitey, where's your hat?!". i couldn't think of any other famous lines employing the term.

and it wasn't exactly a good time to go hunting them on google.... :-D

 

fact that CNN has been going wall-to-wall with it for 12+ hours speaks pretty strongly to that fact.

i wanna know why he never got promoted, btw. after they bumped off osama, the #3 or #4 guy leapfrogged into #1 position! after 9 1/2 years of whitey patiently waiting his turn!

talk about "i don't get no respect"....

 

CNN covers everything for 12+ hours. It's what they do.

When I'm not working, I watch the news religiously, and I've never heard of him. Not that it's not a big deal, and not that it's not good they caught him, but this thread (and the link Augie provided) were the first time I'd ever seen or read anything about him at all.

 

well, he was #1 on the most wanted list for 5 or 6 years (until 9/11), which i believe is way longer than dillinger or bonnie and clyde. but honestly, i'm from boston and only had a vague awareness myself of his existence until recently. PO ain't quite what it used to be!

plus i never saw the departed. or the brotherhood (cable knockoff).

sad thing wasn't that he bumped off fellow thugs, it was that our FBI was so dang corrupt that innocent 3d parties were terrified of REPORTING anything to them! can you imagine a city where the cops are arranging mob hits?!

CatT, where are you from, that capturing Whitey Bulger gets you so happy? He was a hood that was about to be socked in the slammer when he went missing. Money can do anything in America escape time. The real heros are the cops who dogged this guy after cold leads for the last 13 years.

well, i understand that, but that's a seperate matter -- aren't such posts labeled "edited"?

if a post is still on top and heretofore unreplied to, what's the diff between a 10 min lockout and a 10 month lockout? the former just causes serial posts, i.e. "oops, what i meant was...", "sorry that was a typo", "here, let me clarify...".

either way, wouldn't 30 mins or an hour be the logical cutoff? who the heck even NOTICES a typo in the first 10 mins?! and when it takes 6-7 mins to access the page, sometimes i can't edit a post fast enuf even if i notice it immediately!

 

huh? i'm thoroughly confused. what would i be googling/binging? i am very rarely on the ANSWERING end of queries -- it's my OWN questions which are found, after-the-fact, to be typo ridden!

aniwe, i prep posts in a txt file, but of course, there's always a few typos creep in during the cut/paste process. enuf of a window to edit once or twice would be nice, but....

btw, what's the first sentence mean? the limit is 15 mins, not 10? really?!

 

Typos can easily be avoided by using the preview function before posting.

I am a news person as well and love to watch cnn and fox anytime I can. I dont remember this guy but he was in my local paper yesterday I read it and it was interesting that he played as a retired normal guy all these years. He could be here lurking the forums at mg as well.
