In the GetRunKey.bat file there is the line "ver | find "Windows 2000">nul" which gets hung. I think it is because the find command does not exist on my XP Home sp2 system.
If i go to a cmd window and type ver /? I get help on the ver command.
If i go to a cmd window and type dir /? I get help on the dir command.
If i go to a cmd window and type echo /? I get help on the echo command.

    Like this:
    C:\>dir /?
Displays a list of files and subdirectories in a directory.

    DIR [drive:][path][filename] [/A[[:]attributes]] [/B] [/C] [/D] [/L] [/N]
    [/O[[:]sortorder]] [/P] [/Q] [/S] [/T[[:]timefield]] [/W] [/X] [/4]
    snip snip ...

    C:\>find /?
'find' is not recognized as an internal or external command,
    operable program or batch file.

I can use find in notepad or other editors.
    Anyone have any ideas ?

    Welcome to Majorgeeks!

In your system32 folder (normally c:\windows\system32) there should be a file named find.exe. If it does not exist, you are missing a file that should be there by default. See if you can locate a copy elsewhere on your PC (like in an i386 folder) or on your Windows CD. If it does exist and it cannot be called from a command prompt, it probably means that your environment path variable is messed up.

ver, dir, and echo are not good example to try. They are commands built-in to the OS and you will not see files for them anywhere on your PC. The system does not need to know where they are to run them. It does need to know where find.exe is located. Try another non-built in command from a command prompt like edit or taskmgr Do they work from a command prompt?

 I looked at my path and found C:\Windows\STstem32
Same old story, I didn't make any changes.
    Well, guess what I did???

    I thank you very much.

Getrunkey works great now so I can move on.

    Thanks again,
    Ray
