I was trying to load dyanastic services and startups using MSCONFIG, but I keep getting this annoying error stating that I need to use an administrators account to make the changes. (I am using an administrators account).

I am not sure if I am infected, but my spyware and antivirus programs are not indicating any problems. Is anyone having the same problem? Please let me know if you can help me.

    Thanks

You are using MSConfig to do something it is not designed to do. Services are loaded and configured using services.msc

No, that is not my point.. I have done this many times, but now I am getting this error. I have run such programs as Registry Booster and CC Cleaner to try to fix any problems with the registry.

I am just trying to get rid of the error.

But I am still getting the error. I have enclosed a screen shot of my problem.

If you are getting an error message stating you need to do the operation from an account with administrator privileges and the account is in the administrators group; then you may be infected. As, Malware can often do things like this.

    Please follow the steps below:

    - Run ALL the steps in this Sticky thread READ & RUN ME FIRST Before Asking for Support
    • Make sure you check version numbers and get all updates.
After doing ALL of the above you still have a problem make sure you have booted to normal mode and run the steps in the below link to properly use HijackThis:

    Downloading, Installing, and Running HijackThis

Make sure you also rename HijackThis.exe as suggested in the procedures. Use analyse.exe for the new name. This is very important due to some new infections going around.

When you return to make your next post, make sure you attach the following logs and that you have run these scans in the following order too:
    • CounterSpy
    • AVG Antispyware Log - ONLY IF NEEDED you were not able to run CounterSpy
    • Bitdefender - from step 6
    • Panda Scan - from step 6
    • runkeys.txt - the log from GetRunKey.bat
    • newfiles.txt - the log from ShowNew.bat
    • HijackThis

Ok, I tried all of the scan and instructions in the Read & Run Me First post.

However I am still getting the same error with MSCONFIG.

All scan with the exception to the Panda Scan didn't return any problems.

Panda Scan found 5 problems which are in the attached log.

Prior to running the scans I was using Zone Alarm Internet Suite, and it didn't find any problems either.

I have also run scans with Windows Defender and Ad-Aware SE, Registry Booster and Yahoo Anti-Spy.

Ad-Aware SE found a few tracking cookies which I deleted prior to running all of the other scans.

Here are all of the logs from the scans.

ZoneAlarm may be the problem here, disable ZoneAlarm. Now will MSConfig run properly?

Your logs look fine. You shold update Java and uninstall all older versions.

I have tried some other scan programs too.. I have Zone Alarm off right now (just using the Windows Firewall). But I got problem before I installed Zone Alarm.

I also tried a program called Erunt.

    Check out this other thread.

    Hi John,

I thought for sure it was ZA also. confused

Maybe you have not designated an Admin password during install.

You can do this by going to Start > Settings > Control panel > users and passwords. Set up that "users have to enter a password" This will allow you to do just that..

When you are done, uncheck "users must enter password" this way windows will continue to log you on as usual...

I was able to fix the problem...

I went to a previous backup and then used Erunt to make a backup of the registry. copied the file to backup drive and then reverted back to latest backup of computer. Did a restore of the registry with Erunt and it fixed the problem..
