I'm trying to get old profiles and folders where I can read them in Outlook Express and in Thunderbird. Can anyone tell me how I copy the dbx files and the Thunderbird files from where they are to where they need to be?

I see an import/export for the addresses, but not for the emals. When I look under Tools and try to import emails, it just gives an internet import, not one within the computer.

    Thanks for help.

I figured this out. You open Outlook Express, go into File > Import > messages (?) and a small window opens up. In this window you have a choice of email programs and you select Outlook Express 5 or 6 and click on next. In the next window you checkmark the box next to Import Folders from an Outlook Express (6) folder system and click on ok. In the next window, you have a browse bar where you can go into your own folders and find the set of dbx files you want to import. You click on the folder where the dbx files are stored and Outlook Express will then load these into Outlook Express. You will then see them in your local folders and can then open the emails.

That worked for me with Outlook Express 6.

Now I need help with the same thing for Thunderbird. I'm not finding the import button. If anyone can help me, I would appreciate it.

As you are talking about Outlook Express we know it's XP you are using, but which version of Thunderbird, 6.0? If so, click on Tools > Account Settings, Local Folders. That will tell you where TBird is pointing at currently, but if you click the Browse button you can navigate to your old set of folders. But TBird offers a better way of organising your profiles - with TBird closed run thunderbird.exe -P from a command prompt and that will allow you to create new or clean up and rename your old and new profiles.

    um .... It's version 2.0 (please don't laugh, it's working!) lol

Thanks for the tip. I'll see if it works with this old version.

I'm not laughing - I preferred 2 to any of the later versions, and it's where I learned about the tip ;)
