So, if you know me, you know I love guns. Found a nice WWI, WWII Russian surplus Mosan Nagant for sale. They made millions of these guns, about the cheapest historical rifle you can get.

So, I ordered one last Tuesday. Been almost a week, 5 phone calls, and I am told it will ship out Monday. Now, they have not charged my CC, and told be there was a delay. I guess I am spoiled by the normal fast shipping. I ordered ammo for it last Wednesday, got ammo, no gun. :cry

Looking forward to shooting this one, supposed to kick like a mule. 7.62x54 round.

    7.62x54 vs cinder block. http://youtu.be/G1VXdiC2VGQ

Not bad for a gun invented in the late 1800's. Comes with a bayonet too. :-D Might have period piece photos of me and this gun in the next week or two. Have a friend that is big on re-enacting military stuff. :cool

In our times of instant or next day (shipping) gratification, it's painful to wait so long for something like that. :-D

    Congrats, Fred.

That vid is pretty wild with the bullet coming in all slo mo and then Boom!

That is awesome Fred. I have a handful of 7.62 rounds sitting somewhere that I picked up from a range close to my place because I thought they were neat looking.
I like guns and knives. :)

Well, for fun, here are the bullets. From up to down
    , the 7.62x54, 30-30, 6.8SPC, and the 5.56 NATO round.

30-30 is one of the more popular deer hunting rounds in my area, not real long range rounds, but pack a punch. The 6.8SPC has been used very successfully on feral hogs and on deer. The 5.56 is legal to hunt deer with, but too small for me personally.

Ivan did not play around making this gun. I WANT MINE NOW! LOL :-D

Gonna take most likely several days to clean the cosmoline off... :major

For a perspective, the 7.62 rounds length is 3".

Hey Fred, I assume it is a rimmed round.
How does it compare to a 7.62 Nato (.308 Winchester rimless)?
Any difference in the recoil and noise between the 2?
Is it .311 in bullet diameter. I assume it is.
    Do you reload?

In my young opinion. The 30-30 is the best brush gun ever! I use one as my deer gun.

Yes, it is rimmed. I don't have the rifle yet, so can't say how the recoil is, and I don't have a 7.62 NATO (yet). :-D Just by looking, I would say the bullet is more like .311000758. ;) Actually, Wiki says .312 http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/7.62×54mmR But the it was developed in the late 1800's, so some changes may have happened over the years.

I don't reload yet, need to go ahead and spend the $ to do it. Would save a lot of $ and be able to shoot more.

My 30-30 used to be my hunting gun. Was told that the slower bullet the 30-30 fires is less likely to be deflected by brush in the areas I used to hunt in. Don't know if that is fact, or old wives tale.

Might go deer hunting this year. Don't know if I will take the AR-15 in the 6.8SPC flavor, or the old Rusky bolt action. Might be worth the looks on the other hunter's faces to show up with the Mosin Nagant with the bayonet attached.

The place I might hunt at is owned by a bunch of doctors and they all have high $$$ hunting guns. :-D

So, I won a few things from contests and It's been almost a month now and everyday I look to see if it has arrived in the mail and I :cry when I see it hasn't. I've come to realize when they say 4-6 weeks, they actually mean it!! The wait is just killing me!! :-D

I think that the model their company after the old Soviet style... I still don't have a tracking number... But they did finally charge my CC Monday. Their policy is supposedly they don't charge you until the item is boxed and accurate shipping can be determined. So, UPSanta might be bringing my new toy to my FFL one day this week! :-D Or not. :cry

The guy that I buy holsters from usually has a 5 to 6 week waiting period. But at that is because he hand makes each one to your specifications. Don't mind waiting for that, but when my toy is in their warehouse, and all they have to do is box it up and ship it to my FFL....

    I WAN'T my toy!! :-D

Fred are you doing any shoulder strength exercises in anticipation of the day UPSanta arrives with his brown sleigh?

Still no tracking number, no email. Gonna ding them if they have a rating system.

I am so spoiled by most online sellers... :cool

Had the same thing happen. Ordered a key box for my boss and 3 weeks goes by with no email, no tracking, nothing (they did process my payment that day however). A month goes by and still nothing. So, I email them, no reply, email them again, no reply, call them 3 times, still no reply and still no tracking or package. It's about 5 1/2 weeks now and we decide to contact the credit card company and put in a claim to get our money back. I go online and order a different box from a different company for about half the price and it shows up in about a week. You know what shows up a few days AFTER I get the other key box? that blasted first box I ordered :-D still with no tracking, email, phone call or anything up to that point. So I rejected that shipment because we already had what we needed and we had gotten our refund from visa.

I personally think they mailed it out once they had gotten notification from the cc company about the charge back but way to late by then.

I am pretty sure my toy has been shipped and I bet I get a call from my FFL Thursday. If not, going to call them again, raise some hell! :-D

It is here! Even got a break on the FFL tranfer fee! They normally charge $25, charged me $20, good peeps. Will be back to buy some cleaning stuff from them.

Whoever put this gun up for storage was very serious about their job! Cosmolene is everywhere on this gun. Used up a roll and a half of paper towels to get about 80% of the cosmolene off of it. The gun has been used, but is in great shape. The stock is sweet, thinking about refinishing it, have to do some more research on the oiled stock methods.

Should have pictures this weekend. This rifle is large, with the bayonet, it is 5' 5.5"....

Got the hex receiver, which I am told is better, and it was made at the Tula plant, again, I am told that is better.

Made in Russia, in 1930. :cool Bolt is smooth feeds OK, seems to be a little temperamental, but it is still got cosmoline on it, and is my first bolt action gun. Very happy so far, is supposed to be accurate to 600 meters... :major
