Getting new videocard tommorow, ATI or nVidia?

Hi Guys,

I am getting a new videocard tommorow morning, but I am having a little fight with myself trying to decide WHICH one to actually get....

Here's my 3 options:

XpertVision Geforce FX5900XT 128MB $310 AUD
(or)
Gexcube Radeon 9800 PRO 128MB Extreme $440 AUD
(or)
ABIT Radeon 9600XT 256MB VIVO $350 AUD

I have currently got a C.P Technologies ATI Radeon 9200 SE 128MB, hopefully either of the cards above will give me a significant boost in gaming performance? or should I wait a few months, save more and head for the X800 or FX6800?

I need to decide either which one to get, or if I should wait, by tonight.. and if you guys recommend me getting one of the cards above, can you tell me in percentage terms of how high a performance increase I should expect, 50%, 100% 300% of the current gaming performance?

i immediately pick the nvidia card. it seems the best bet of all three hands down in the bang/buck department (to me, anyways). i can't really tell you what the performance increase is, but i can assure you that it will be over 300% if you have the right computer, maybe closer to 400% in the game. as for doom 3, well, expect it to run about 1000000% better! ok, maybe not that much, but you get the idea.

 

Have to agree, although on principle I don't buy nVidia cards anymore since the XT fiasco. The 9800 Pro is the best card if it's the 256bit version, but the 9600XT and the 5900XT are fairly close. I think the 9600XT might actually out perform the 5900XT in newer DX9 games.

 

I like Nvidia as well as you see in my specs. I will be completely rebuilding mine hopefully soon with a new Nvidia card as well....

I am really keen on getting this done, my brother just got his PC today, basically the same system as mine except he has a 2.53, and he has a nvidia agp, a audigy ex, where I have a 2.8, ati and realtek onboard...

His tower is nice, very nice, it was my old PC, I loaned it and he took over payments because I couldnt afford $160 interest a month, so after 9 months he managed to scrape the $800 odd and got it back out, I missed it, bit jelouse, he has a FULL tower case with window kit, altec color led fans 2x, and a blue on/off switch controlled neon light.. hehe

He scored a copy of CS: Condition Zero today, paid $99 AUD for it, it has the original CS in it, so I just need a serial now, I cant afford $20 right now, let alone $99...

I didnt get a videocard today, I had to clear debts first, so thats been put on the back burner, I will eventually get a 6800 or X800 though, thats my target before easter next year! or else
