In addition to getting some blank pages (this is a new thing in the past 24 hours) I'm not sure I've been handling Vista and IE7 properly; it seems I have to add too many sites to the trusted zone in order to get anywhere. I went through all the steps suggested before posting; I was unable to download Combofix.exe, though. (And, in case it matters, MGTools started by accident when I was moving it into the root folder; I did, however, do a proper run of it at the suggested time. Thanks for any advice.

Appears my log did not upload yesterday, so here it is.

Sending log for ComboFix as I was finally able to download the program and run it. (I figured out I had to add download.bleepingcomputer.com to my trusted sites before I could download it.)

Hi there and welcome. We are currently reviewing your logs and will get back to you with a set of instructions as soon as possible. Thanks for you patience during this time.

Whilst I do that could you please attach the following logs from running SAS and MBAM.

Thank you. Sorry for not attaching those two logs sooner; I misunderstood and thought all the logs would be contained in the zip file. :-o Vista puzzles me; I think some of my problem has been from using "Protected Mode" -- I unchecked that and things are a bit better. My surfing still seems extremely slow at times, though, so I'll appreciate your wisdom.:)

I'm not seeing any malware in your logs. I suggest that you post in the Networking section regarding any issues you are having. Have you tried a different browser besides IE?

    1) Please go to Add or Remove Programs and uninstall the following software:
    • Java(TM) 6 Update 11

    2) Please disable all anti-virus and anti-spyware programs while we do the following (re-enable when you are finished):

Run C:\MGtools\analyse.exe by double clicking on it (Note: if using Vista, don't double click, use right click and select Run As Administrator). This is really HijackThis (select Do a system scan only) and select the following lines but DO NOT CLICK FIX until you exit all browser sessions including the one you are reading in right now:

Optional fixes to free up resources.

    After clicking Fix exit HJT.

Note: (Please do get rid of all those sites in your TZ once you have sorted out the problems you are having whilst browsing. We don't recommend that ANY site gets placed into your trusted zone.)

    3) Now reboot your machine and install the most current and up to date version of Java available here at the below link:

    Java Runtime 6

    4) Now Run Ccleaner!

    5) If you are not having any other malware problems, it is time to do our final steps:
    1. We recommed you keep SUPERAntiSpyware and Malwarebytes Anti-Malware for scanning/removal of malware. Unless you purchase them, they provide no protection. They do not use any significant amount of resources ( except a little disk space ) until you run a scan.
    2. If we had you use ComboFix, uninstall ComboFix (This uninstall will only work as written if you installed ComboFix on your Desktop like we requested.)
      • Click START then RUN and enter the below into the run box and then click OK. Note the quotes are required
      • "%userprofile%\Desktop\combofix" /u
        • Notes: The space between the combofix" and the /u, it must be there.
        • This will uninstall ComboFix and also reset hidden files and folders settings back to Windows defaults.
      • Delete the C:\combofix folder from combofix (if it exists)
    3. Any other miscellaneous tools we may have had you install or download can be uninstalled and deleted.
    4. If running Vista, it is time to make sure you have reenabled UAC by double clicking on the C:\MGtools\enableUAC.reg file and allowing it to be added to the registry.
    5. Go to add/remove programs and uninstall HijackThis.
    6. You can delete the C:\MGtools folder and the C:\MGtools.exe file. You can also delete the C:\MGlogs.zip
    7. If you are running Vista, Windows XP or Windows ME, do the below:
      • Refer to the cleaning steps in the READ ME for your Window version and see the steps to Disable System Restore which will flush your Restore Points.
      • Then reboot and Enable System Restore to create a new clean Restore Point.
    8. After doing the above, you should work thru the below link:

Thank you, K. I've worked through the things in your post, including clean-up procedures and malware protection. To answer your q, I have tried Mozilla off and on, but eventually end up uninstalling because my husband and I are so used to IE. Thanks again.

    You're welcome :)

I suggest you post in either Networking or the software forum to resolve your issues with browsing. Best of luck with that & safe surfing
