Hello, I am in the market for a new vid card that can handle hl2 @ 1024x768 resolution, so far, I do not know.

    I run athlon64 3000+, 1 gb pc3200/ddr400 ram, and GeForce ti4600 (128 mb agp 4x, old but reliable)

I got a new sata hard drive, 200 gb maxtor diamondmax, its great, I setup my partition table for windows and linux, and this is a fresh win install I want to play half-life2 on.

Counter-strike source plays fine, but hl2 and hl2: lost coast play slow and sluggish, even at 800x600

My quesiton, I have $200 to spend at bestbuy, and need a new video card, it has to be from there though, I really want the 6600 gt, but they only have it in pci-e (bestbuy is pretty limited on vid card selection)

I was looking at this card,

It looks good, but reading further online its ram is slower than the gf4 ti4600, I want a card that can do hl2 @ 1024x768, and I hate ATI and ATI is terrible in linux, so I definitely want a NVidia AGP Card.

Dont know much about this card, but maybe someone else has some benchmarks or something?

Do not get the 6600, it's not a great deal better than your current card.

Even a 6600 with DDR2 memory is still too slow.

    Minimum 6600GT, or if you're a regular gamer, a 6800 or up.

On a side note, I'm surprised you can't comfortably play HL2.

I've run it on a PIII with a MX440 at 1024x768 and it ran fine.
