    Hello all,

I am not at all technically minded most of the info below has been told to me.

My GA-8ISXT-FS motherboard has (according to a family friend) died.
He stated that several of the diodes have popped and the board needs replacing.

    I have two questions.

    1. Is it possible to replace the diodes?

    2. I have looked high and low on the net and have only been able to find used motherboards. I know that mine is an older machine and they stopped manufacturing these a long while ago. Can anyone give me an alternative board to use.

Many Thanks in advance Major Geekers

In 36 years of fixing PC's, I have only once seen a systemboard with "popped diodes" so I kinda doubt the diagnosis......
Far more likely are bad capacitors ( http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/File:Bad_Capacitor_01.jpg ) or a bad power supply. If it is bad caps, there are places that will replace them for about $40 US.
Did anyone try another power supply? (Don't even bother to install it. Lay the PC on its side and plug in the two power connectors for the systemboard to see if you get a cursor.)
Otherwise; the problem is that you have to do a repair install of the O/S when the systemboard changes. That process can be a crapshoot; sometimes needing all of your software reinstalled and/or deleting all of your stuff.
Do you want to fix it or just get your files?

Thank you Davismccarn for your response.

Having looked at the link you gave I would say it is the capacitors that you said.
I do not believe it was a bad power supply. I had been watching a movie when it finished I tried Youtube and also set up ISSstream and that is when the computer crashed. I treid restarting but all I got was a continuous beep and having tried 4 or 5 times to restart, it was having none of it.

Having looked at the motherboard it does look as though the capacitors have blown.

I have got the HDD and the processor but if I cannot repair this ( and the motherboards that are available are all second hand) I would like to know if there is an alternative board that I could use.

I am very sorry if the above does not make sense but like I said I am not gifted technologically, but I try.

    Many Thanks
    Jono

Thank you sir for your efforts

I would like to ask sir ok I am asking about repairing a motherboard but I did ask about a new replacement motherboard. Is it possible and what would it be? I am truly sorry for being a pain but I need my computer.

You need to buy exactly the same board you already have and I gave you a link to ebay.uk. If you change the board, Windows won't boot!
