GimmySmileys - Favourites, DAMMIT!!!

Hi Guys,

I was just cleaning out my registry with RegSupreme and I found an entry called GimmySmileys, under favourites, I right clicked and asked for more info, and its malware!

What can I do, I cannot detect it via AdAware, or RemoveIT, or SpyBlaster, what do I do?

This one appears relatively harmless.
search for the exe and dump it..
remove the item from startup.

%LOCAL_SETTINGS%\temp\gimmysmileys.exe
%PROGRAM_FILES%\gimmysmileys\sv.exe
%windows%\gimmysmileys.exe

ewido should be able to clean that out for you with no problem.

But you know what the rule of thumb is? if you find 1 article of malware.. there could be more.. I'd say run through the malware removal tutorial as a precaution.

Hmm, what I dont get is it wasnt their yesterday, but I have had SpyBlaster installed for a few days now, I assumed this stopped this sort of stuff. Maybe I am mis informed? :S

Ok, I think I need to format again, I removed those entries, but couldn't find that file, and everytime I open a window right out, it will icon down the a medium state, you have the _, Square, X... if I Square it to stretch right out, any window, be it a program, Explorer, Firefox, etc, every now and then its like the 2x Square is hit to un-maxi the window.

This mean I`m infected, dammit, I got a firewall, Anti-Virus, Google, Ad-Aware, Spyblaster, RemoveITXT,etc

And still it can HAPPEN!

I QUIT!

I also noticed that a folder has been generated in the past few hours called "TEXCACHE"... Is this related to adware?

As Kodo already mentioned, you need to do the below!

Please follow our standard cleaning procedures which are necessary for us to provide you support. Also there are steps included for installing, running, and posting HijackThis logs as attachments.

Run ALL the steps in this Sticky thread READ & RUN ME FIRST Before Asking for Support

Make sure you check version numbers and get all updates.

Very Important: Make sure you tell us the results from running the tutorial...was anything found? Were you unable to complete any of the scans?...Were you unable to download any of the tools?...Did you do the on-line scans as suggested? etc.

After doing ALL of the above you still have a problem make sure you have booted to normal mode and run the steps in the below link to properly use HijackThis and attach a log:

Downloading, Installing, and Running HijackThis

Make sure you also rename HijackThis.exe as suggested in the procedures. Use analyse.exe for the new name. This is very important due to some new infections going around.

When you return to make your next post, make sure you attach the following logs and that you have run these scans in the following order too:

[*]runkeys.txt - the log from GetRunKey.bat
[*]newfiles.txt - the log from ShowNew.bat

CounterSpy - ONLY IF you were not able to run Windows Defender

Bitdefender - from step 6

Panda Scan - from step 6

HijackThis

NOTE: You can only attach 3 files in a single message so it will require that you use two messages to attach all of these logs!
