    Hi There
in the last days I had few sudden popups of websites asking for downloading applications. So I gave a look around and I found a suspicious process running in task manager named SERVIC~1.exe.
I run a search and it was in windows\prefech as "servic~.exe-0BA84F66 (24 Kb) I empty the prefetch, reboot, it was again there but impossible to find again with search.
I made a search on google and the news were pretty bad so
I followed all the suggestions in your tutorial:
downloaded and run getrunkey and show new
I run in safe mode: ccleaner, MW mal soft tool, MW defender, Spybot; plus AdAware se, Ewido and my AV KIS 6.0
Nothig detected. Only Spybot detected 2 stuff: Windows security center.FirewallDisableNotify and Microsoft WindowsSecurityCenter_disabled.
I run (impossible safe mode) Pdef and Panda AC and nothing was detected, I saved the bdlog.
After so many reboot I noticed that the servic~1.exe was not running in task manager but still in windows prefetch ()I deleted) and I have a new process running in task manager : "ServiceLayer.exe".
I run hijackthis after changing name and now I post all the logs in this thread and in the following one
    give a look please

    Re: waiting for answers

You need to keep better track of what you install on your PC.

    ServiceLayer.exe is
    I assume you installed it???

What malware problems if any are you having? This is not malware.

Sorry its true, I have nokia conn library.
Anyway as I have been written the problem is that popups of unwanted websites start suddenly asking for downloading applications ecc, then I noticed that nasty servic~1.exe process running. So I worry I have a rootkit based trojan/malaware.
As I followed all your instructions and more before posting could you please give a look to the hijackthis to make me sure that everything is ok? I gonna appreciate very much

But it is not nasty! It is what you installed from Nokia. If you don't need it or don't like it. Uninstall it.

Your logs do not indicate any malware. There are a few non-malware items that could be resolved.

Now Click on Start, then Run ... type services.msc into the box that opens up, and press 'OK'. On the page that opens, scroll down to CWShredder Service ... then right click the entry, select 'Properties' and press 'Stop Service'. When it shows that it is stopped, next please set the 'Start-up Type' to 'Disabled'. Press 'OK' until you get back to Windows.

Next, run HJT, but instead of scanning, click on the "None of the above, just start the program" button at the bottom of the choices. At the lower right, click on the 'Config" button, and then the Misc tools' button ... select 'Delete an NT Service" ... copy/paste the following into the box that opens, and press "OK":

    CWShredder Service

If you receive any error messages just ignore them and continue.

Now exit HJT but do not reboot when it tells you it needs to. We will do that further down after running HJT again to fix some other items.

Now install the current version of Sun Java from: Sun Java Runtime Environment

Then uninstall the below old versions of software:
    J2SE Runtime Environment 5.0 Update 3
    J2SE Runtime Environment 5.0 Update 4
    J2SE Runtime Environment 5.0 Update 5

Now run HijackThis again and select the following lines but DO NOT CLICK FIX until you exit all browser sessions including the one you are reading in right now:
    R0 - HKLM\Software\Microsoft\Internet Explorer\Main,Local Page =
    O2 - BHO: (no name) - {9ECB9560-04F9-4bbc-943D-298DDF1699E1} - (no file)
    O17 - HKLM\System\CCS\Services\Tcpip\..\{9E496551-E252-419B-8585-65FEFF7AA1C9}: NameServer = 85.37.17.55 85.38.28.93
    O20 - Winlogon Notify: WRNotifier - WRLogonNTF.dll (file missing)
O23 - Service: CWShredder Service - Trend Micro Incorporated - C:\Documents and Settings\no\Desktop\cwshredder.exe <--- this line should be gone already if the previous steps above worked

    Now exit HJT

Now we need to Reset Web Settings:
    1. If you have an Internet Explorer icon on your Desktop, goto step 2. If not, skip to step 3.
    2. Now right click on your desktop Internet Explorer icon and select Properties. Then click the Programs tab and then click "Reset Web Settings". Now go back to the General tab and set your home page address to something useful like www.majorgeeks.com. Click Apply. Click Delete Cookies, Click Delete Files and select Delete all Offline content too, Click OK. When it finishes Click OK. Then skip step 3.
    3. If you do not have an Internet Explorer icon on your Desktop, click Start, Control Panel (for some systems it may be Start, Settings, Control Panel), Internet Options, Programs tab and then click "Reset Web Settings". Now go back to the General tab and set your home page address to something useful like www.majorgeeks.com. Click Apply. Click Delete Cookies, Click Delete Files and select Delete all Offline content too, Click OK. When it finishes Click OK.
Note for IE 7 users: You need to select Internet Options then the Advanced tab and then Reset Internet Explorer Settings!

Now reboot in normal mode and post a new HJT log.

Make sure you tell me how things are working now.

    I follow all your instructions. Only the O17 - HKLM\System\CCS\Services\Tcpip\..\{9E496551-E252-419B-8585-65FEFF7AA1C9}: NameServer = 85.37.17.55 85.38.28.93
was missed in the HJT, so I couldnt delete of course.
I dont have popup of unwanted websites so far and everything looks fine
    here is the last HJT
thank you very much for your patience

Your log is clean. If you are not having any other malware problems, it is time to go back to step 1 of the READ & RUN ME to Disable System Restore which will flush your Restore Points. Then reboot and enable System Restore to create a new clean Restore Point.

After that, you should work thru the below link:

How to Protect yourself from malware!

I get system restore always disabled

Thank you very much again for helping
