Hello, please can you help me get rid of an item that I believe is a type of malware. I try to delete it but on re-boot it comes back. It's file name is gOhgkog. I attach my log below.

    Thanks

    Welcome to Majorgeeks!

Please follow our standard cleaning procedures which are necessary for us to provide you support. Also there are steps included for installing, running, and posting HijackThis logs as attachments.
    • Run ALL the steps in this Sticky thread READ & RUN ME FIRST Before Asking for Support
    • Make sure you check version numbers and get all updates.
    • Very Important: Make sure you tell us the results from running the tutorial...was anything found? Were you unable to complete any of the scans?...Were you unable to download any of the tools?...Did you do the on-line scans as suggested? etc.
    • After doing ALL of the above you still have a problem make sure you have booted to normal mode and run the steps in the below link to properly use HijackThis and attach a log:
    Downloading, Installing, and Running HijackThis

Make sure you also rename HijackThis.exe as suggested in the procedures. Use analyse.exe for the new name. This is very important due to some new infections going around.

    • When you return to make your next post, make sure you attach the following logs and that you have run these scans in the following order too:
      • CounterSpy
      • AVG Antispyware log - ONLY IF NEEDED you were not able to run CounterSpy
      • Bitdefender - from step 6
      • Panda Scan - from step 6
      • runkeys.txt - the log from GetRunKey.bat
      • newfiles.txt - the log from ShowNew.bat
      • HijackThis
NOTE: You can only attach 3 files in a single message so it will require that you use two messages to attach all of these logs!

    Hi Halo :) ,

I think maybe the advise you gave about Microsoft Java did the trick! I got rid of it & then was able to delete the obnoxious gOhgkog file & as yet it hasn't returned on re-boot. I'll let you know if it comes back but in the meantime you are my hero!!!

    Thanks

P.S. Do I need to delete all the scanning stuff I downloaded?

    Ah ok, thats good.

I would keep those files for a week or so, just incase you need them, but do check the guide I posted and its links as many of those scanners are updated frequently.

also have a read of this guide when you get chance for some tips on How to Protect yourself from malware!

    Hi Halo,
All is still good here, I had read the guide & am doing all I can to stay safe. I do have Norton/Symantec 2006 which has been really good up to this problem came, it didn't seem to recognise the dud file at all. I quarantined it using Norton manually but like I said it was just replicating itself on re-boot so I thought it was in the system running files somewhere. Anyhooo thanks to you it's gone. Big hugz to ya. And I hope you have a fantastic Christmas.
