Having just read theefools post about bikes reminded me. It's my parents golden wedding anniverasy soon. They met at a track cycling meet and are still cyling. I'd like to get them a a model bycycle made in gold or at least something along those lines. Trouble is I can't find anyone who does such a things. Does anyone here know of any site I can visit (preferably in the UK) that they know do such things? confused

If you have time on your side, you may find it easier to find the ornament you want and have it gold plated. Look in the jewelry stores..they have ornaments. Also look in stores that do trophies....they have an array of different stuff for different awards for events and stuff.

Well I thought "what a fantastic idea!". Trouble is cycling is such a minority sport in the UK that it rates well below darts!! So finding a cycling trophy is like finding rocking-horse s**t!! Hells teeth! the Tour De France starts in London on Saturday - and how many of the UK TV stations here are showing it - that'll be none then!!

Unfortunately my Dad's idea of jewellery doesn't bear repeating! :D

Funny you should say that because in my local paper in the UK I once saw an advert in the classifieds at a time they had a new "typist". The "h" and "u" are obviously close together as you know.

For Sale: Rocking horse s**t 3-5 year old

So Yargwel..don't give up the hunt for that gold bike :D

I thought you might be able to contact a custom jeweler and have what you have in mind made. (not actual jewelry) Someone familiar with lost wax castings could also make your idea real. Gold will cost a pretty penny though.

Maybe get a Craftsman to make a moulding out of wood? Some people get Oak or Maple and manufacture bowls etc. I am sure they could make a 'trophy' of sorts and get the inscriptions gold plated. This would be unique and a personal gift. Woodturner or master joiner would be a start.

    Good luck :)

    Excellent idea Grumbles.

Another idea along similar lines would be something made in metal or glass.

Friends of mine had a glass designed ornament to top their wedding cake which they kept as a memento - here's a website that does glass ornaments of bikes:

I'm sure whatever you do, your parents will be thrilled.

    Cheers
